Opportunity to Participate in El Salvador Work Missions
Editor: Deb Shatzer

A few months ago about a dozen members of the Delaware Rotary Club expressed an interest in participating in a work project in a third-world country. There are currently a number of opportunities to partner with the Olentangy Club on a project in El Salvador.
EYE CARE PROJECT - JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2009 (1-2 week commitment)
The eye care project is a 1-2 week commitment in January/February when a medical team and volunteers go down to perform operations on the neediest individuals. They also take the glasses we collect. John Medeiros is the Olentangy contact, and he spoke to the club in June. If you are interested in joining the team, we need to let the Olentangy Rotary Club know SOON.

STOVE PROJECT - NOVEMBER 2009
Smoke from the stoves the villagers use in their homes is one of the reasons their eyes are so bad. There is a stove designed in a different part of El Salvador which has the potential to reduce vision problems and also reduce the reliance on wood for fuel. They are looking at introducing these stoves to the area, and if the villagers are interested, perhaps setting up manufacturing in the village. One project is to travel and work in the stove plant and also visit the partner village.

OTHER POSSIBLE PROJECTS
There are numerous medical problems among the villagers. A less concrete project is to help fund a medical clinic for other problems. The local priest is also being contacted to determine what other pressing needs the village might have for non-medical volunteers.
