Our new member, Ron Jorde, was introduced by long time neighbor and friend, Matt Simpson.

Ron is 51 years old and was born in Ashcroft, BC. He has a brother and two sisters and his Dad in Kelowna. As a teen he played hockey, basketball and football and graduated from KSS in 1978. He is married to wife Lorinda and they have four children - Ryan 30, Carly 28, Alexa 20 and Riley 18 as well as three grandkids. His interests are snow and water skiing, motor biking, quads, hiking, golfing and biking. Lorinda rode in the "Ride to Conquer Cancer" bike ride from Vancouver to Seattle, a two-day event that raised $8,500. She will be taking part again in June and she rides in honor of family members that have passed away from cancer. Ron and Lorinda were co-chairs for the KSS dry grad and they arranged to put up a volleyball court at KSS for the event.
His business is in the construction industry and he owns Kettle Valley Stone. They own quarries and they blast rock. Larger rocks are used for landscaping and smaller pieces are taken to their plant where they use a rock splitter and produce stone for the home construction market. How did they get into the business? They were into logging and wanted to diversify. They owned a quarry and decided to establish their rock blasting and cutting business. Their first big order was for a million dollars for cut rock from California. However, this order came just before 9/11 and the customer put the order on hold and eventually never took the product. They have since been able to sell it all and move on to a successful business.
After attending one of Matt's and John Sullivan's Rotary information meetings and hearing a lot of fascinating information from John and facts from Matt, he agreed to attend one of our breakfast meetings and then joined in January. He was happy to help with the Inn From the Cold dinner along with Henry and Heather and now wants to contribute and be very involved in the club's projects and activities. |
