A farmer had a young, hard-working hired hand named Bill, who finally mustered the courage to ask the farmer to borrow the horse and buggy so he could go see his girl. The farmer quickly denied the request. Then the young man asked for the use of a lantern. "Well, Bill, I guess I might let you take the lantern," replied the farmer.
