Evening at the Rep Date: Saturday January 23, 2010 Time: 6:30 Hors d'oeuvres and host bar 7:30 Showtime "Leading Ladies" Dancing and refreshments to follow the play. Cost: $20 per person
The Rep has theme each year and this year it is "The Fifties". Although not required, attendees are encouraged to dress up and have fun with the 50's theme. This should be a great evening of Rotary fellowship. There will be a sign up sheet on the tables at the regular Rotary meeting from January 6 to the 20th. Joyce Anderson and Twila Wolfe will be collecting the payments and checks can be written to the Montana Rep.
Leading Ladies has been described as a combination of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and Billy Wilder's Some Like It Hot. Not bad company! These are two of the most profoundly beautiful and hysterically funny stories ever told. In the hands of Ken Ludwig, this tale of mistaken identities, human foibles, and loves lost and found (not to mention cross-dressing) comes alive in a hilarious romp that has had great success in regional theatres around the country. http://www.montanarep.org/
Many thanks to Dan Carlino and his staff for putting on a great Christmas party this year. Pictures are in the picture section to the right of the home page. Pictured here is the Youth Exchange students with Santa.

The drop-out rate for Missoula schools is approximately 20%. This includes all grades within the district.
Rotarian Dr. Alex Apostle, Superintendent of Missoula County Public Schools, in cooperation with The Rotary World of Service committee, chaired by Dolores Bandow and President Dan Smith, is working to change this figure. The Rotary Club of Missoula has agreed to act as the facilitator in bringing together virtually everyone including business leaders, city and county departments and elected officials, schools, health department, nonprofit organizations, parent advocates and churches in a campaign to keep kids in school.

On Wednesday, November 4th, The Missoula Rotary Club donated $134,000 to the One is Not Enough campaign to assist Watson Children's Shelter in the completion of a second shelter. This donation was made possible by Rotarians from our club. Funds donated by our club members were matched in the amount of $39,000 by a matching grant from Rotary International. If you would like to donate to the Missoula Rotary Foundation for this good cause, please contact Kevin Miltko or Miranda Ming. Checks can be made to the Missoula Rotary Foundation. We encourage you to donate through the Missoula Rotary Foundation as another matching grant form Rotary International will be pursued in 2010. For more information about this campaign www.oneisntenough.com.

This last weekend Aktilek, Meg, Stacy and I attended the play "Dracula the Musical" at the Hamilton Play House. Sophie, our German exchange student, has a lead role in the play and did an absolutely wonderful job. After the play we had a lovely dinner with the Hudson's who are hosting Sophie. Sophie had only been in the country three weeks when she auditioned and got the role. There is only one more weekend left to see the play so if you are in the Hamilton area this weekend, get a ticket.
On October 28th the noon club Rotary club was treated to Peter Park's direction of the Dolce Canto's premier acapella choir. It was a treat for all Rotarians and their guests. Many thanks to our program chairs for providing entertaining and stimulating programs each week.

The weekend of October 23-25th was a busy one for Rotary events. Dan Smith, Maureen and Ray Fleming, David Kinsey, Martha Ripley and Kathy Schulte all attended the District Assembly in Great Falls. Kathy played in the Rotary Jepardy game and also sang the 4 way test song (pictured) with some other Rotarians. Martha presented about Rotary Youth Exchange along with Mikal Anderson, a ROTEX student who shared about his experience in Germany. Mikal is getting offers to speak around the state. Assemblies and conferences are a great way to touch base and learn about what is happening throughout the state.

I am in need of host families for 3 female youth exchange students who are currently in the US. We are looking for a second home starting in January to June. Rotary International encourages us to have more than 3 families so that students can experience different families and have a more well rounded experience. When we sent our kids overseas they can have up to 5 families or more because sharing this experience is valuable to other kids and family members. The Host families do not have to be Rotarians but do have to have background checks. If you know of someone who would like to host a student, please contact Martha Ripley or Kevin Miltko. Thanks for your help.

We are putting together a selection committee from all three clubs to select the outgoing students for the 2010-2011 school year. It is important that we have more commitment and assistance in screening students and making sure we only support one inbound student per year. The selection committee will meet once to go over the rules of exchange and review applications of outgoing students and then meet with the students as a committee to interview. This is not a big commitment but very important and will help us keep this program running each year. If you would like to serve on the Youth Exchange selection committee, please contact Martha Ripley at 329-1727 or email marthar@orimt.org.

June is when we gather information for the Directory. Just sign on the administrative section and my profile and make the changes, otherwise your information will be out of date. Pictures can also be sent to mpeissig@gatewayprinting.com.
Anyone working in a Rotary-sponsored event or committee assignment that places he/she either alone with, or in physical contact with, children, other than your own, you need to have a background check done.
