Have you ever wondered how big projects get started? What began as a holiday seasonal activity to help raise funds for our local community, has become a year-long commitment to the collection and delivery of food to local Putnam County food pantries. On December 14, 2008, Rotarian George Knoechel, began a program that has made a difference in the food supply for Putnam County. In ten months, $37,000 worth of food has been collected and delivered to four food pantries: Putnam Community Action Program (CAP), Gilead Presbyterian Church, Brewster Community Food Pantry, and St. John the Evangelist Church.

Hello, everybody!
When I decided to do this Exchange Program, I was completely unsure about the outcome. A lot of people told me it was an excellent decision, life-changing. On the other hand, some said that it would be a hard time, being away from my family, friends, country. Anyway, what I knew for sure is that it would be an adventure.

Some four or so years ago Putnam Hospital Center approached the service organizations in the county seeking pledges for the Hospital building Fund. Until that time the Carmel Rotary Club annually supported the Hospital providing volunteers to run the ticket booth for the rides at the Hospital Fair also running the games concession. After discussion and consideration, the Club's Board of Directors decided that rather than pledge a set sum of money, we would hold an annual fundraiser and dedicate the proceeds to the Hospital.
