Here is what Rotary founder Paul Harris had to say in July of 1912, the year that the National Association of Rotary Clubs changed its name to the International Association of Rotary Clubs. At our next RI convention, in Montreal, Canada, we will celebrate the 100th year since Paul Harris, Ches Perry, and 16 Rotary clubs created N.A.R.C...
Before the 1993 –1994 Rotary year our incoming Club Presidents were charged with creating and running a fundraising event and then presenting the proceeds of that event to the current President to use for supporting the activities of the Club during that year. This presented a challenge for the current President because he did not have a known budget or a financial plan at the beginning his year, and sometimes not for several months into his term.
What do you tell a prospective member about Rotary? Of course there is the camaraderie at our meetings and the speakers we hear. Then there are the service projects in which we participate such as reading to grade school kids and work at KincaidPark. Those are some of the ways we practice service above self. One of the tenants of Rotary International is that the strength of the organization is in the individual clubs and I think we have a strong club.
