Comissioner of Tourism, Beverly Nicholson-Doty spoke at Rotary West November 10, 2009. With St. Croix starting to see a boost in cruise ships and major airline flights, that is what we expected. Commissioner Doty said "Throughout the Territory, but especially on St. Croix, the V.I. Tourism Department is working to boost small inns, bed and breakfast, and boutique hotels as a way of promoting the unique charms of each island." She spoke on us capitalizing on what St. Croix already has to offer. The Commissioner spoke proudly of their advertising efforts and the market gains as a result. We had such an interest and a host of questions prompting the President to invite the Commissioner back to Rotary West to continue the dialogue.

On St. Croix, there are four Interact clubs. Two of the clubs are made up of students from the St. Croix Central High School and St. Croix Educational Complex both sponsored by Rotary Club of St. Croix West. Every year, Interactors and Rotarians celebrate the charter of the first Interact Club during the week of 5 November. Together they participate in a variety of activities to increase Interact awareness in their community. This year the Governor of the US Virgin Islands and his cabinet are participating in the activities. We have opted to celebrate on November 13, 2009, so as not to interfere with the scheduled mid-term exams for two of the high schools. 47 Interactors, 22 from Central and 18 from Complex participated in the activity hosted by the Governor. The audience was elated with the Interactors performance and the questions they asked. We are hopeful that this event will lead the four clubs to continue joint activities to promote Interact.

The Board approved the club's hosting of a Halloween Haunted House for children on Halloween. The entrance was canned goods in support of the Haiti food drive. The intent was to sell food as a fund raiser for the Interact clubs. The children that attended needed our support. Consequently, the President opted to feed the children present. The children and adults enjoyed themselves.
