Kathy was here to tell us about the Wings of Hope Foundation. It was created by Kathy and Tony Gautsch in 1996 in memory of Brian Christopher Lanier. Wings of Hope continues Brian's spirit of reaching out to needy children with compassion, caring about them, and taking action to make things better.
Why is Wings of Hope is Unique
? All operating expenses are covered by special donations, so that 100% of all monies raised goes to help the children. No compensation is given to officers or volunteers --- all work is done through the generosity of family and friends. They specify exactly how the donation is to be used and follow up to see the outcome. They are a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, so all donations and contributions are tax-deductible. The Wings of Hope Foundation's goal is to close the gap between what the children need and what government or public funding provides.

Jan 12, 2010 at 8:55 PM Subject: 6970-BCC: EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI
As you
know by now a major earthquake struck Haiti today. Here are some of
the specifics:
·A tsunami alert
for the Caribbean region was issued after the earthquake struck at 9.53pm GMT.
·It was the largest earthquake to hit the impoverished country, since
1984.
The vibrations lasted for more than a minute and were felt in Cuba. A hospital
was reported to have collapsed in Petionville, near Port-au-Prince, and houses
were said to have fallen into a ravine. Petionville is home to many foreign
diplomats and members of a major United Nations mission to the country.
·Don Blakeman, an
analyst at the United States Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado, said: "I
think we are going to see substantial damage and casualties."
·Already the
poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti has been hit by a series of
disasters recently and was battered by hurricanes in 2008.
·Seventy per cent of Haiti's population lives on less than two dollars
per day and half of its 8.5 million people are unemployed.
This evening I sent an
email to the District 7020 Governor, Errol Alberga, Jr., offering our
assistance.Please
consider making a contribution to the relief effort.Any amount will
be greatly appreciated by the victims of this disaster. For additional
information, contact
our District's Disaster Relief Chair, Jared Dollar, at jared_dollar@ml.comor by phone at
386-312-5107.Rotarians make life better for those less fortunate.Today the people

Honorary Member Klaus Diegritz was inducted into the Rotary Club of Eberbach as PRESIDENT on June 30. So whenever Klaus visits us like he and Margret do twice a year, we will have two great Club Presidents here at one time - Blaine and Klaus!
Klaus, Margret, and Blaine
Last year, Klaus was accompanied by his best gal Margret. His son Christian is now 28-year-old and is a Professor at the School of Dentistry in Munich, Germany. Klaus brought along his paintings. He gave us an excellent presentation on the artist Salvador Dali, and told us about the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Picture shows 90-years-young Bob Benedict and Klaus.
See other pictures and video clips elsewhere on this website.
This morning, members saw a "Klaus look-a-like" attend our breakfast club meeting. After many years of hearing from Klaus about his son Christian, we were all pleased to finally meet him. What a nice gentleman. He is a dental surgeon in Germany and teaches at the university. Below are a few pictures of Dr. Christian Diegritz.

Sarah Owen Gledhill is a member of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine Sunrise. She is a Planning Advocate for the Florida Wildlife Federation.
Sarah told us about her exciting one month she spent in The Netherlands (District 1550). She was District 6970's Group Study Exchange (GSE) Rotary Team Leader. The non-Rotarian team members were: Terri Mashour, Land Resources Planner for St. Johns River Water Management District, sponsored by the St. Augustine Sunrise Club; Sean McLendon, Sustainability Program Manager for Alachua County Board of Commissioners, sponsored by the Gainesville Club; Jason Shaw, Sergeant with the Palatka Police Department and Coordinator of the Weed and Seed Program, sponsored by the Palatka Club; and Dr. Shane Williams, Stormwater Project Manager for Marion County, sponsored by the Ocala Southwest Club. Sarah lived with four different host families. She spoke to them about growth, environmental protection, climate change, and alternative energy sources. After an intense interview process in Florida, she was selected the Team Leader. She was one of the youngest members of the team but had the opportunity to support and coordinate a wonderful experience for the four other team members.
UPDATE: See pictures below, and video clips in the "VIDEOS OF CLUB MEETINGS" section.
You heard from Interact President Cristina Verdejo, Interact members Dayna Haynes , Molly McGunagle, and Karina Diaz; and Interact sponsors Jeff McDevitt and Amanda Akey. They showed us their new banner!
Betsy spoke about her trip to India. As a youngster, she had polio and was helped by her Rotarian-Father who was a physician. She showed us pictures and was quite informative. She came all the way up from Delray Beach and spent last night visiting a friend in Titusville who is the new Rotary District Governor Elect in that area.

your dedication and willingness to participate in our initiatives, advance our
community causes, and certainly not least…have fun! It's been a terrific year,
but now it's time to turn the leadership torch over to Blaine. I wish him the
very best as he begins his Presidency tomorrow. Let's continue to give the club
our very best efforts and show Blaine that we are fully in support of his
leadership! Thanks for the great time.
