Imagine that you are a child who has never been in an airplane before! Imagine that you had heard of Disneyworld, and all it had to offer, before but never dreamed that you would ever enjoy the privilege of going there! Imagine now that you are one of the four members of the Acton contingent of the 2012 Dreams Take Flight on your way to Disneyworld!
That’s where four local children found themselves on May 9th, under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Acton. Starting at 4 o’clock in the morning, with their faces showing a mixture of excitement and grogginess, they were picked up and driven to Air Canada’s maintenance hangar next to the airport. Here they met with 175 other children from the province and were entertained for a couple of hours before boarding their flight to Disneyworld.
After a very unusual flight, the rest of the day was filled with the excitement of going on rides, some terrifying, feasting on treats, meeting with Goofy and his friends, and just having a great time. Going through their minds was: “Could this really be happening to me?”
At the end of the day, on the verge of total exhaustion, they re-boarded their flight and made the trip back to Toronto. Tired as they were, the four members of the Acton contingent couldn’t stop talking about the funny and exciting things that had happened that day.
What an exciting day! The Rotary Club of Acton is so proud of being able to support this event! Our thanks go to Air Canada and the Dreams Take Flight organization that every year makes this all possible. We can’t wait until next year!
