KINGSTON - The Chamber of Commerce of Ulster County sent out a notice Monday warning local businesses of fake $100 bills being circulated in the area.
|
| The counterfeit detector pen does not detect these bills, which have a waxy texture and begin to feel like a legitimate bill after they are handled multiple times.
The backs of the fake bills have a grayish-green color as opposed to the bright green color legitimate bills have.
A way to detect a counterfeit bill of any denomination is to run a fingernail across the collar of the president on the bill. If the collar feels rough, the bill is most likely legitimate. If the collar is smooth, the bill is most likely counterfeit.
Also, a finger will stick to the counterfeits if it is pressed on the bill for a few seconds. Black lights will also detect the counterfeit currency. |
