Click to view image in actual size Qn March 1, 2010, Massachusetts' Data Protection law becomes effective. The provisions of this law will require every Massachusetts business to implement specific administrative, technological and physical controls to protect customer and employee information. The potential cost to a business for a single instance of compromised confidential personal information is $5,000.

John Moynihan is President of Minuteman Governance, Inc., a Massachusetts consultancy that provides information security services throughout the public and private sectors. Prior to founding Minuteman, John was Deputy Commissioner and Internal Control Officer at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
