ALPHARETTA – Margi Urquhart recently took office as president of the Rotary Club of Windward for the 2010-2011 Rotary Year, with the rest of her leadership team sworn in at the celebration dinner at the Windward Marriott.
"Building Communities and Bridging Continents" is the inspiration for upcoming Rotary year. The Windward Club is known for their commitment to literacy and education. Programs include scholarships, dictionary project, teacher and student recognition, and an International literacy project. This club supports Habitat, The Drake House, YMCA and North Fulton Community Charities.
District Governor Casey Farmer visited the club recently, taking part in a Family of Rotary BBQ event hosted by Rotarian Bill Compton and his wife, Lisa. The next day he returned for a special board meeting and regular meeting to give the club direction and offer assistance during the Rotary year, which he wants to be "Bigger, Better and Bolder."
During his visit Farmer was honored for helping students through funding scholarships for GED testing, and a local student, Tai Bercer, read an essay that helped get her chosen in the program. Bercer is a student in Lanier Tech's program at Milton Center, the Old Milton High School.
The Windward Club meets on Mondays at noon for lunch at the Marriott on Windward Parkway in North Fulton.
