Humor: Joy Lebourveau brought us some humor from Scottsdale: It is from her father; "it's not the cough that carries you off, it's the coffin that carries you off in'.
Inductions: Bill Rosenthal from the Boston Foundation for Sight and Chris Teachout from the Needham Bank were inducted as new members. We have had a speaker from the Boston Foundation talk to us about how their Foundation has been successful in restoring sight to many individuals. Chris is a Needham resident and he and his family have been actively involved in the Needham community for many years. We are thrilled to have them join us and look forward to their community activism and participation in Rotary activities.
New Board Induction: Bill addressed the Club with a review and appreciation all of our accomplishments during the past year. Bill mentioned that we have 10 new members!! The dictionary program was well received and hopefully will be implemented during the next school year. Bill thanked the Club and individuals for a great year. A copy of Bill's address will be added shortly.
Klaus conducted King Ryan's induction (Coronation?). He spoke about how Needham has continued to maintain a balance of local and international projects and that we have a dynamic club. Bill was recognized as the President of a Club with a net gain in membership (a very difficult task these days- congratulations Bill). Klaus also spoke about various Rotary international projects and the international recognition that Rotary has internationally. Polio Plus is the primary example of the international strength and financial contributions of the international Rotary community. Klaus also spoke about the Annual International Convention and the power of 10,000 plus Rotarians celebrating the accomplishments of Rotary. Next year's convention is in Montreal!!
"King" Ryan wore his crown and cloak with dignity(?) and the well wishes of his constituency. Because of time constraints, Ryan kept his remarks brief and thanked everyone and talked briefly about the upcoming year. Klaus then inducted the New Board and we celebrated with a special dessert (ICE CREAM SUNDAES!!) prepared by Sibert, who brought an aquarium for our special day. Thank you Sibert!!!
