Ryan led us in the pledge of allegiance, with Ron choosing "God Bless America".  Darrell led the group in prayer.

 

GUESTS: Jim McCleary and Shelia Pransky from Needham Opportunities inc., and Charles Nelson a prospective Rotarian who has applied for membership.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Looking for speakers for December.  Please coordinate with Deb.
  • Harvest Fair is October 3.  Opportunity to promote the Rotary pancake breakfast.  Sign-up sheet for times 10-3, looking for two people per time slot.
  • Pancake Breakfast is October 17 ( we have the permit in hand).  Are looking for sponsors, with their ad to appear on the placemats used at the breakfast.
  • Needham Cares BBQ is September 16
  • Possible to get Senate candidates to speak at Rotary in December
  • December 20, Rotary to help with the Needham Habitat House (bring your gloves and long-underwear for the roof work)
  • Anyone found the CHARTER???
  • Special congratulations to Ted Shaughnessy for receiving his 7th Paul Harris Fellowship pin!!!!!!!

 

BIRTHDAYS: Jim Brown

 

HAPPY $$$: Ted for his nephew Brian McNamare (USMC) going to Afghanistan, Bill Paulson for family time and Needham FastPitch, recovery of Deb's dad and his return home, Scott and Cathy celebrating 36 years of marriage, kids back to school, Rick Davis on local TV and a whole bunch of HTBH!

 

HUMOR: History lesson on the origin of where we get some of the sayings we use today regarding such varied topics as June weddings, babies and bath water, dogs/cats and a wet roof and finally bringing home the bacon!

 

SPEAKERS: Shelia Pransky, executive director and Tim McCleary of Needham Opportunities Inc. (see picture) talked about the mission of NOI to promote, preserve and develop affordable housing in partnership with Needham.  Their grand fundraiser event is a Masquerade Ball being held October 24.  Looking for sponsors and participants to help raise money to fund the operations of NOI.

 

They have been very active in building 20 units on Linden St., and rehabbing 20 more on Linden St. as well. They do a great job! See their web site at www.noihome.org
