The Boy Scouts of America provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. The Boy Scouts of America celebrated their 100th anniversary last year - just one year after Rotary International's.

In 1954 the Cub Scout program was instituted in order to include boys under 10 years of age. Boys are Cub Scouts until they reach the sixth grade. In the mid-nineties, the organization initiated the Venturing program which is open to both boys an girls.

Last year the Lowcountry BSA District honored 22 Eagles Scouts - the highest honor given by the organization.

For more information on the BSA, go to http://www.scouting.org or contact Rotary member, Matt Miller who also holds an administrative position with the Lowcounty BSA as well as Camp Adviser of the BSA's Camp Ho Non Wah.
