C-U Bags Tournament Presented by Champaign West Rotary
To Benefit Don Moyer boys & Girls Club
Anyone who has ever tossed a bean bag at a party, a tailgate or just for fun is invited to compete for the title of Bags Tournament Champion this fall in Downtown Champaign. The second annual Community Bags Tournament to benefit the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club is announced for September 26th.
This year Champaign West Rotary has adopted the Bags Tournament as a Community Service project and will operate this year's event. CW President Jon Rector says the club's commitment to this project follows a long history of community service for the club.
"We are pleased to commit ourselves to another in a long line of service projects to aid the youth of our community. This project to benefit the Boys and Girls Club is consistent with our community service mission."
Tournament Chairman Art Warren has assembled a team of Champaign West Rotarians to serve as committee chairs seeking community support for sponsorship, team recruitment, prizes, public relations, logistics, volunteers, food and entertainment. It was Warren, while as President of CW Rotary, who first committed the club to its multi-year support of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event 10 years ago. That community event now raises more than $200,000 per year. Warren is excited about the prospects of another community service challenge for the club. "The timing is right, especially in this economic environment, for our club to step up and support another outstanding community project", says Warren. He added, "I am confident we will begin a process of creating what we hope is another signature community event in downtown Champaign."
Details about the tournament will be forthcoming as logistics are finalized and registration materials are completed. Meantime, interested participants are encouraged to visit the following website to learn more about the Bags Tournament concept and begin thinking about assembling a team:
