Robert Clark, mayor of the City of Monroe, presented the program. He gave an update on the city budget process, noting that the city council wants to maintain services and not spend money they do not have. He encouraged citizens to get involved and neighborhood groups to adopt projects such as Waterloo School students planting flowers in nearby Waterloo Park. He thanked the Monroe Rotary Club for partnering with the city to provide the Playscape, Skateboard Park and Rotary Picnic Pavilion, all at Munson Park. He explained several capital projects underway in the city using state and federal money and discussed the important role economic and community development has in bringing investment to the city.
Mayor Clark invited Rotarians to the Custer statue centennial events planned for this weekend as well as the River Raisin Heritage Trail dedication planned for June 25 and 26. There will also be a Drum and Fyfe Muster in the city on June 11 and 12.
