Editor: Ron Adkins

At 12:27 pm on Friday, July 10th, we received an alert that a new regime was afloat. President Greg Horn sounded a 3-minute warning horn, and the boaters on American Lake joined us in taking notice. The race, such as it was, would begin in moments. Those in the galley who were not adjusting hearing aids heard the explanation for the blast; others caught on as a DVD of power boats skimming over the water's surface came up on the screen. Order was more or less restored as all hands scrambled to get on deck for the launch signaled by the 12:30 bell.

Carl Fynboe offered the invocation after a lengthy recitation of the innumerable graduates of Clover Park and Lakes High Schools, most of whom seemed unaware that this was an early kickoff to the possible class reunions of 45 and 47 years ago. Need it be said that Carl was a ranking officer in the CPSC at the time? PDG Gordon Quick, with a different fanfare to follow, led us in the pledge to the flag. And what followed? Those traditional symbols of office, choice zucchini and cherries, from the garden of said Mr. Gordon. (Oh, yes! There was that matter of the Past President's pin.)

There was to be at least one more water ski jump before we returned to the agenda. Two Club officers needed to be sworn to their duties: President-elect Mick Johnson and Club Director Andrew Neiditz, the latter known across the waves as a Past President of the Sumner Club.  Past President Dave Covey, of late also known as Assistant Governor Dave Covey, put his scull aside so as not confuse the audience by introducing a human-powered nautical propulsion system with the high-powered engines already introduced as he conducted the installation ceremony. Be ye forewarned that more installations will follow.

Jim Skar stood to pipe aboard the visiting Rotarians. They were:  Don Daniels, Fife-Milton; Don  Doman, Tacoma #8; Bill Harrison, Clover Park; Dan Koch, Gig Harbor; Ernest Heller, Clover  Park; and Joyce Oubre, Clover Park. Thanks to one and all, and we hope to see you again.

Bill Price capably served as Sgt at Arms while Bill Young covered the Paul Harris Desk. Ron Adkins drew the short straw and was assigned the Bulletin detail.

At about this point we paused to recognize our visitors today, all of whom were invited by President Greg Horn. These included Sue Greer, Mel Schuckenbroch and Donia Martin.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Gayle Selden
took over the PA system to alert us to a fellowship event visible on the near horizon. Mark your calendar for July 24th when we'll view "Angry Housewives" at the Lakewood Players. Tickets are $14 and will be due on Friday, July 17th. The curtain is at 8 PM and this will be preceded by a $13.99 Bar-B-Q for those interested. Contact Gayle directly for further details.

COURAGE CLASSIC
Then it was Bud Montgomery's turn, and he solicited support for our intrepid bikers in the Courage Classic. It was an easy segue from that to reminding the membership of the award-winning rest stop at Nason Creek. Dave Guttu will be heading the effort this year, and that involves coordinating with the Clover Park and Tacoma South clubs. Plan now to help set up on Sunday, August 2, around 2 PM, and then dish up the root beer floats and much more for the riders on Sunday, the 3rd. You'll also want to participate in the dinner on Sunday evening which is followed by the beer garden.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE
Past Secretary Ben Sclair
announced from the back of the boat the names of the following members who have earned Perfect Attendance Awards along with the number of years:
Morris Northcutt, Mo Sarram - 2; Greg Horn, Judy Hosea, Clint Johnson, Jay Mayer, Joe Quinn - 3; Mick Johnson, Robert Peterson, Rick Selden - 4; Steve Mazoff, Ben Sclair - 6; Joel Feldman, Ron Irwin, Bob Zawilski - 7;  Duncan Cook, Bud Montgomery - 8; Ward Fletcher - 9; Dave Covey, Greg rediske - 10; Ron Adkins - 12; Charles Heberle - 17; Mike McGowan - 19; Mary Lou Sclair, Bill Young - 20; Dave Sclair, Jim Skar - 26.

MIGHTY FINE TIME
T'wouldn't be a Club  meeting without the ship's punishment (aka "mightY fine time"), and President Greg Horn first recognized Mike McGovern. At the Sportsman's Dinner and Auction Mike once again was high bidder on the TOTE adventure, and he offered up a "Johnson" ($50? $100?) for his plane - train - boat ride which he said was simply terrific.  Bill Young posted a $41 donation in recognition of 41 years of wedded bliss. John Warner, who shares June 29th as a wedding anniversary as well, brought in $100; this seems to have covered his 60 years of marriage plus $40 looking to the future. Duncan Cook noted that his anniversary was the same date, but his fine was waived in view of his donation of a Club banner which now bears the Rotary theme, "The Future is in Your Hands." Jan Luze posted $20 in recognition of her grandaughter's graduation from Arizona.

CLUB ASSEMBLY & HORN BLASTS
President Greg Horn (and that's NOT Horne) moved back into the Captain's Chair and gave a partial review of the duty roster for the coming year. It is partial only because he hasn't quite finished. Decided so far is that one committee is being dropped. The Bulletin writer is not terribly clear on which one was dropped, but he suspects it is the long-moribund "Celebrate the Bulletin Writers" which, as you're probably aware, has done very little since the introduction of nuclear submarines. In order to hold the committee count at 43, however, a new one has been created (no HORN blasts, please):  the Lakewood Rotary Homebrew Festival. Okay, it may be taxing for some of us, but go to http://www.lakewoodrotaryhomebrewfestival.com.

If that didn't work, try Googling Lakewood Rotary Homebrew Festival. In fact, for me that brought up four or five items (but the hyperlink went nowhere).

It is likely that some members are challenged in this respect, so please know that the event will occur on August 29 at President Greg Horn's water ski facility near Orting. Setup will begin around 11 am and the fun sets in around 1:30 pm, plus or minus 30 minutes. This is intended to be a significant fellowship and fundraiser, and you should anticipate now that President-elect Mick Johnson will have much more to say over the course of the next 49 days or so.

WEEKLY DRAWING
As is our custom, we held a drawing. Bill Larkin held the lucky ticket, but the white chip he drew was worth only $5 of the $250 on the line.

JULY 12 PROGRAM
Coleen Adler will speak about "Disaster Preparation"
