Many Rotarians are saving on printing and postage costs by sending information and correspondence
electronically. Mike Knell, governor-elect of District 7080 (Ontario, Canada), says his district
will save US$2,500 next year simply by moving its entire district directory to the district Web
site, where it can be easily referenced or downloaded. "If you apply that same idea to the various
printed materials at the club level, a district of 50 clubs or more can really achieve some cost
savings," he says.

Rotarians can save time and effort by mastering the use of two e-mail features: filters and list
servers, or listservs. Filters, which come with many e-mail programs, create an automatic filing
system that routes mail to specific computer folders automatically by subject. "That means you can
divert all your district mail to one folder and all your club mail to another folder. It makes it
much easier to sort, " says Vincent. Listservs allow e-mail users to create mailing lists of e-mail
addresses (for instance, all Rotary club presidents in a single district, all committee chairs in a
club) and send a single message to all group members with one mouse click. Most e-mail programs
allow you to set up group lists, and Vincent says it is well worth the effort to build the lists in
advance.
It is worth noting that if you are a subscriber of ClubRunner, much of the functionality discussed

club, etc. You can even build you own lists. The advantage to doing so is that unlike your email program,
if someone's email address changes, it is immediately reflected in everyone's list. You never have to
worry about acquiring other member's email addresses and keeping them current.
