CENTERVILLE ROTARY HAPPENINGS -- by Dan E. Sortman
Greeters This Week: Don Gerhardt & Don Stewart
Greeters Next Week: Ron Hartley & Sivagi Subramaniam
Last week President Jeff Senney welcomed everyone back from the extended holiday break. We had a good turnout with about 40 Rotarians and guests at the meeting despite very cold and snowy conditions. Our speaker was Georgia Mergler from the Centerville/Washington Library discussing plans for celebrating the 200th Birthday of the Library. The Library started as a book club of sorts and has grown over the years to one of the finest Libraries in the country with 2.5 Million items checked per year and 72,000 card holders. They are planning many activities including Author visits, featured book lists, and even a Library Geo-Cash program. Check out more details at WClibrary.info on the internet.
The club pays for 50 meals each week whether we actually use that many meals or not, so bring friends or associates that might be interested in Rotary or hearing our speaker to the meetings. We will not charge you for a guest if you list them on the visitor list as a prospective member.
Bill Reber filled in as Sargent at Arms and helped collect happy dollars toward our new charity "Honor Flight". Joe Williamson was happy to be back from several months absence. Judy Stang was happy to be back after getting married and honeymooning away for a few weeks. Many were happy for the Buckeyes, Flyers, and family members gathering (and then leaving) over the holidays. Don Gerhardt was happy that the lady he hugged at Wal-mart did not hurt him after he mistook her for Carol Kennard!
Did you bring a friend today?
Rotary District Conference by Carol Kennard
Mark your calendars now for the annual Rotary District Conference to be held at Hueston Woods State Park April 23-35, 2010. The conference will include the traditional golf outing, basket auction and a special dinner & gala at the Packard Museum in Dayton - transportation included from Hueston Woods to Dayton and back! One of our own members, Bob Corbin, is a featured speaker, giving his perspective on "Your Freedom is in Your Hands." Should be a fun event so get it on your calendars now!
Think About It by Dan E. Sortman
Hereare a few things to
think about that you probably have never thought about;
Can you cry under water?
How important does a person
have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
Once you're in heaven, do
you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?
Why does a round pizza come
in a square box?
How is it that we put man
on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on
luggage?
Why is it that people say
they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?
If a deaf person has to go
to court, is it still called a hearing?
Why do people pay to go
up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the
ground?
Why do doctors leave the
room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.
Can a hearse carrying a
corpse drive in the carpool lane?
Why does Goofy stand erect
while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!
If Wiley E. Coyote had
enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?
If corn oil is made from
corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?
Why do they call it an
asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's
in your butt?
