President Jack reports that he, Ed and Gertrude had an interview with CTV about “Out of Africa”. Southeastern Turkey was rocked by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Oct. 23rd with the epicenter located north of the city of Van. When I arrived in Van about 2 weeks later to relieve the first ShelterBox Response Team, the needs of the city had been pretty well met, so our team began concentrating on distributing ShelterBoxes to the small rural villages north of Van.

The governments of Australia, Canada, and Nigeria, along with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, announced a combined pledge of more than US$100 million to support polio eradication,following efforts by Australian Rotarians to place the issue on  the agenda at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth.

The community members of Pierre Ambeau in the Pont Sondé region of the Artibonite Valley in Haiti now have access to safe water thanks to the support of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg-Charleswood. The club provided the $5000 of funding required for one well which was part of a larger project in the region described here by Julie Truelove, Program Manager at Ryan's Well, who along with the Rotary Club of Ancaster were our partners in this project.

The Westgrove Wonders summer literacy camp is working to eliminate summer learning loss with at-risk students. The Charleswood Rotary Club has sponsored this camp since it started in 2004.
