smallCalling all members, Rotarians and friends of Rotarians.  It's time to get ready for the Toronto Ribfest!  All members of the club get together every year to help make the event a very special time in Toronto's Summer Calendar.  We raise a lot of money for the organizations we support, and have a LOT OF FUN doing it.

Delphi Buchanan has a goal to raise $5000, which is the total needed for the operation to save Rahma from losing her legs…

About 20% of the club's budget is used to support International projects.  Even so, last year's committee sure made it go a LONG way....  Here's a great indication of what Richard Chapman and his team did - and thanks to Nigel for putting it together for the web site!

Keep in mind, behind every item, there are several - possibly hundreds - of people benefiting.

Rotary is able to work overseas because we're there!  With more than 30,000 cubs, our funds can bypass governments to ensure the money reaches those who need it.

On Sunday, July 24 at around 8:30 in the morning the flight carrying Alejandra Medrano left the tarmac bearing her back home to Mexico.

What is our loss is Mexico's gain.  What a great ambassador Ale was for her home club and her country, as she charmed and enthralled everyone she met.

Our Toronto Ribfest broke all records for attendance, volunteers, media and great times in 2011.

Planning is already underway for 2012 with the preparation of a new sponsorship package, the development of a transportation strategy, the redesign of the festival site plan and the web site, and even more focus on attractions, entertainment, getting the community involved, and family-focussed fun.

Our Toronto Ribfest Committee needs a few more members to round out the many jobs that need to be done.  Please consider being part of this committee and one of Toronto's premier summer events.  Speak to Michael Bell or Hugh Williams if you would like to get involved.

Toronto Ribfest also launched our Toronto Food Initiative fundraising initiative - and is moving forward with our goal to Eradicate Child Hunger.

RI President-elect Kalyan Banerjee asked Rotarians at the 2011 RI Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on 25 May to go back to their communities and think of “new and different ways” to take on the challenges of today.

A note from Lynda Ryder...

Ken was such a wonderful person.

It was my honour to be associated with Ken. His sense of humour;strong loyalty (he rarely missed a meeting); his concern for others (his many volunteer years with the Travelers Assistance at the airport); and his unbelievable humility. One of Ken’s greatest joys was receiving a Paul Harris Fellow. I can’t remember a Ribfest or Rotary auction where Ken wasn’t in attendance.

My last words to him, last Wednesday, were “Ken, you are on door next week” and Ken replied “I’m looking forward to it, it’s my favourite job”.

The Rotary Club of Etobicoke has lost one of its’ very finest.

(Ken Bromley passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012.)

On Saturday, March 10, an enthusiastic group of Rotarians helped pack shopper's bags and boxes at Chris' No Frills to raise money for the Polio Plus campaign.

Shopper's donated spare change to a total of $393.41!

Thank you to Nigel Brown for setting it up and making it possible.
