| Posted on Oct 27, 2011 The Detroit Lakes Rotary Club was chartered on September 28, 1922. There were 18 charter members and 7 new members were added that first year. We have had 2 members who have served as District Governor. They were Fred Kegel, 1975-76, and David Fihn, 1985-86. Some of our projects include: Dollars for Scholars, MUNA/RYLA, Interact Club, Boy Scouts, Rotary Soccer Fields, TeacHaiti, Eyes on Jamaica, Boys & Girls Club, Student Exchange Program, Polio Plus. Our mailing address is: Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary, PO Box 1405, Detroit Lakes, MN 56502. | | Posted by Paul Weber on May 10, 2012 This week at Rotary we heard about the KIVA program from Kent Mollberg. The KIVA program takes small amounts of money from many individual lenders and provides loans to people in 3rd world countries. Individuals can loan amounts as small as $25 to help someone get something as simple as a new bicycle or a farm animal. They can also provide some start up money for a small business.
The money is paid back to KIVA and can then be loaned out again. The individual lenders can pick and choose what projects or individuals they want to loan to. The Breakfast Rotary and the Detroit Lakes schools have teamed up to begin participating in this project. | | Posted on May 10, 2012 Aanenson, Aune, Berg, Bergen, Buboltz, Carlson, Genz, N Green, K Hagen, Hill, Jasperson, Jones, Karsnia, Krogsgaard, Labarre, Lee, Louiseau, Mehlhaff, Mortenson, Nansen, Ohm, Olson, Outka, Pratt, C Ramstad, J Ramstad, Sauvageau, Schmit, Schornack, JD Sinclair, Soberg, Squires, Steinmetz, Thompson, VanDam, Vierkant, L Weber, Wenner, Wenzel, Wimmer, Zeller, Zreik | | Posted by Paul Weber on May 08, 2012 Once again, I find myself behind schedule in getting the bulletin out. Two weeks seem to go by pretty fast. Lisa had foot surgery today and so I find myself confined to the house. I'm a good nurse...keep them drugged up and sleeping.
We had a fun week last week when the GSE team from Tasmania was here. We also heard a program from Ashley Drewes as she prepares to head to Tasmania. It's always fun to get to visit with the incoming GSE teams. Being from the Iron Range, we're known as non-travelers and so it's fun for me to hear about other places and meet people from other cultures.
We have a couple of things coming up in June. First of all, don't forget to register for the Rotary Scholarship Golf Tournament. This year's tournament will be held on June 4th. You should have all received information, so get your teams lined up.
Secondly, this year's Changing of the Guard will be held on June 26th. We moved it back to a Tuesday so that we don't conflict with the TeacHaiti fundraiser and annual meeting. Jim Benson, former president of Bemidji State, will be the guest speaker at the Changing of the Guard. If you've ever heard him speak, you know that you won't want to miss it. I've had the opportunity to hear him a couple of times. Just last week, I heard him as the commencement speaker for the BSU graduation. He does a fabulous job. You won't want to miss it.
Out attendance continues to lag. Let's make it a point to get to Rotary or make-up!! | | Posted by Natasha Nodsle on May 01, 2012 On May 1 the Detroit Lakes Noon and Breakfast Rotary club had the pleasure of meeting the inbound Group Study Exchange Team from Tasmania Australia. The Group Study Exchange (GSE) Program is an exciting 5-week vocational and cultural exchange opportunity that can provides experiences in leadership and diplomacy skills, enhances cultural understanding, develop global linkages, and where team members learn about vocations abroad and insight into all that Rotary does. The Tasmanian team attended a joint Rotary meeting hosted by the Holiday Inn and presented information on themselves and shared about culture, food, business and geography of Tasmania Australia. The inbound GSE team will travel from Thunder Bay Ontario through Northern Minnesota over to Bismarck ND. Ashley Drewes from Detroit Lakes is a member of the Outbound GSE Team from our district and will be spending 5 weeks in Tasmania Australia during May and June 2012. Ashley is sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary Club. Everyone should have received an e-mail with the specifics of this year's tournament.
Mark Hagen is chairing the event this year, so get signed up early. | | Posted on May 09, 2012 Who will be the Rotarian of the Year for 2012? It's time to start nominating someone who you think deserves the honor. The Rotarian of the Year is presented at the Changing of the Guard next month.
This year's Rotarian of the Year committee consists of Janet Green, Mark Vierkant, and Mark Hagen. Get the name of someone that you think deserves the award to someone on the committee. | | Posted on May 09, 2012 "Conscience is the mirror of our souls, which represents the errors of our lives in their full shape."
-George Bancroft | | Posted on Mar 29, 2012 Hospital visits can be frightening for children. To help provide comfort, the Rotary Club of Ajax, Ontario has donated stuffed animals to the Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital for the past eight years. In November, the club presented 463 plush toys, bringing its total to 10,000. The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and local Walmart stores and Canadian Tire locations have contributed funds to the program.

Mark is very active in Rotary around the world and is a great community leader here in Detroit Lakes. A very deserving award to a great member of our Rotary Club. | | Posted by Paul Weber on Oct 20, 2011 I've been getting quite a few questions regarding the on-line make-ups. Here's a step by step to get you going on electronic make-ups: - From our club's website homepage (www.clubrunner.ca/detroitlakesnoon) go to Rotary Links on the left hand side of the page
- Click "Cyber Make-up"
- Go to the top of the page and click "Make Up Program"
- Go to two or three different stories. As you read, keep in mind they are going to ask you these questions:
1. Are there any ideas about this story that you could share? 2. What changes on the site do you recommend? 3. What did you like most about your visit to this site? 4. What topics would you like to see in the future? - After you have read your articles, click on "Request Make-up Form"
- Click on either "Don't Want to Contribute" or "Contribute"
- Click on "Request Make-up Form"
- Bring your make-up form to Secretary Paul for credit
| | Posted on Oct 20, 2011 Over the years it's gotten easier to make up a missed Rotary meeting. You have 14 days before or after a missed meeting to do a make-up. Here are some easy ways to make-up. - Tuesday morning Breakfast Rotary
- On-line make-up (click on the cyber make-up link on our homepage)
- Attend a Board meeting (2nd & 4th Tuesdays at the Holiday Inn)
- Attend a committee meeting
- Work at a Rotary function
- Make-up at a nearby club (Perham, Park Rapids, or Pelican Rapids)
Just let me know that you've done a make-up and I'll make sure you get credit. | | Posted by Paul Weber on Oct 20, 2011 1982 Dave Fihn, 1983 Marv Daggett, 1984 Bob Lueben, 1985 Bob Dobrenski, 1986 Bob Ness, 1987 Ken Wernli, 1988 Dick Carr, 1989 Paul Sukke, 1990 Dave Knutson, 1991 Bob Irvine, 1992 Gary Nansen, 1993 Wayne Benson, 1994 Jerry Rogers, 1995 Dave Carter, 1996 Michael Norby, 1997 Tom Seaworth, 1998 Cookie Bergen, 1999 Bob Harris, 2000 George VanDam, 2001 John Lee, 2002 Paul Weber, 2003 Deanna Sinclair, 2004 Patty LaBarre, 2005 Larry Morrison, 2006 Brad Green, 2007 Wayne Pudwill, 2008 Adrienne Buboltz, 2009 Janet Green, 2010 Mark Vierkant, 2011 Mark Hagen |
