Rotary Exchange student, Bailee Jerger, recently sent our club a letter outlining her first six months in Australia.  Her letter is lively and fun to read.  Enjoy!

Volunteers snagged a perfect winter day on ideal ice for the Park Rapids American Legion Fishing Contest Feb. 4.
Jake Peters and Conrad Kelly were already setting up when the early crew arrived at about 8 a.m. to build the cooking shack and organize the kitchen. One innovation this year was thanks to Dave and Amy Andersen’s proximity to the contest site. Dave and Amy brewed the first and subsequent 100-cup pots of coffee, saving generators from overload. The coffee was ready to serve and everything was pretty much ready to go about an hour before the anglers were allowed on the ice.

Before the event was over, the club served 40 pounds of brats, 25 pounds of hot dogs and nearly a full roaster of chili. The event netted more than $1,200 profit and a day of great camraderie among Rotarians and a lot of fun for those who took a break to fish and for the rest to watch the happy anglers.

As announced at last week's meeting, our Rotary club has started a cell phone recycling project.  Pace Butler Corporation will pay cash for used cell phones.  We will begin by collecting used cell phones donated by our own members.  A box labeled "cell phone recycling" will be at the sign-in table each week.  The board will assess how well we do over the next few months, and see if we want to expand the project to the community as a whole.

Pace Butler re-sells the phones they receive--this is their business model.  Information is scrubbed from phones before they are re-sold.  You may want to do this yourself first.  If your old cell phone has a SIM card, just remove it to delete your information.  If your phone does not have a SIM card, there is information available on how to do a "data erase."  Let me know if you want that information.

By the way, recycling used cell phones and keeping them out of landfills is good for the environment!

One of the challenges of keeping an accurate club database is keeping everything up to date. I encourage each of you to go in and make sure your profile is updated wiht the correct info. Simply go to the administration tab and click on "update my profile". Thanks, Denice
