 Jade McLaughlin, a junior from Plymouth Regional High School won the first round of the Plymouth Rotary Club Speech Contest which took place on Wednesday, January 25th. The speech contest is sponsored annually by Rotary District 7850. Jade went on to win the second round held on February 15th, competing against a student from Lin-Wood High School and a student from Lancaster. Jade will now advance to the third round which will take place on April 21st. She will be competing against the winners of students within Rotary District 7850 with the final competition taking place in May. | | Posted by Susan Daigneault

Plymouth, New Hampshire – The Plymouth Rotary Club recently honoredRichard (“Rick”) Currier, Jr. with a posthumous “Citizen of the Year” Award. Accepted by his wife Amy and daughter Janet (herselfa Plymouth Rotarian), Rick was honored for his dedicated community servicewhich spanned his entire short life time.

April 2011 -- Plymouth, New Hampshire: Jessica Dutille - Executive Director of thePemi Youth Center, and AmyYeakel - Education Program Director of the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center(SLNSC) were delighted to be invited to attend a recent Plymouth RotaryMeeting; the pair of educators accepted a $1,000 donation from the Plymouth Rotariansearmarked as support for a collaborative project which will allow Pemi YouthCenter students to visit the Science Center on a regular basis. The Plymouth Rotary Club received over 80 scholarship applications from Plymouth High School students seeking funding for college in 2011. From the pool of 80 applicants, an ad hoc committee of Rotarians had the difficult job of choosing 8 scholarship winners:

Plymouth, New Hampshire – The Plymouth Rotary Club wrapped upanother highly successful year with a celebration at its annual “Changing ofthe Guard” reception and dinner. Rotarians gathered in the Greenhouse at theItalian Farmhouse to enthusiastically thank their executive officers who turnedover their posts to the new slate of officers for 2011-2012.

Plymouth, New Hampshire – Be sure to save the date for the Plymouth Rotary Club’s Third Annual Duck Stampede and River Festival. On Saturday, September 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., local families, friends and Plymouth University students will gather at the Rotary Amphitheater at Riverside Park on Green Street in Plymouth to watch the Plymouth Rotarians “launch” 3,000 rubber duckies down the Pemigewasset River. The duckies will be dropped from a bucket loader off the Captain Douglas Dicenzo Memorial Bridge into the River. Then, every individual who has “adopted a duck” -- by purchasing a numbered raffle ticket -- will hope that his or her duck will be the first to cross the finish line at the Amphitheater.
