We all look forward to serving a spaghetti dinner to the kids and their families. This year's Pack is lead by Steve Precourt and had been very active in the community. This is one small way we can show our appreciation for all of the work done by the kids and their families. Thanks to everyone who participated! |

Posted by Lynda Camire The South Burlington (Vermont) Rotary Club presneted Judy Kearns with its annual Frederick Tuttle Award on Tuesday evening, December 13, 2011, at the DoubleTree in South Burlington. This annual award is given to a community member who has done exemplary work in their vocation and enhanced the South Burlington Community. Judy Kearns has worked at the “Other Paper” since 1999 when the former publisher, George Chamberlin, asked her if she could help part-time with the compilation of a service directory. That work turned into managing the advertising for the paper and when the Other Paper moved into its offices her position became full-time. She became progressively involved with the paper and when Mr. Chamberlin retired in 2009, Judy bought the paper and became the publisher. During that time, members of the South Burlington Rotary have had the occasion to work with Judy, and to see how she excelled in service to the readers, advertisers and community of South Burlington. She has been a pleasure to work with, often anticipating needs before they were expressed. We have also had the pleasure to continue to see the paper grow under her guidance. While maintaining a friendly focus on the “friends and neighbors,” Judy, her staff and columnists have helped connect the people, schools, government and businesses of the community. We also respect and honor their efforts through considerate and open reporting to “foster more engaged citizenship.” Like Fred Tuttle, Judy Kerns exemplifies how a person’s day-to-day work, their vocation, can enrich the community. Please join us in congratulating Judy!

Posted by Lynda Camire on May 10, 2011 Recreation Path Project This project has come to a successful conclusion to its first phase. In a relatively short period of time we raised funds to purchase 21 new benches and 5 new signs for the South Burlington recreation path. These will be located in various locations along the path. Donations came from individuals, neighborhoods and businesses. Everyone one who donated had high compliments for the Rotary undertaking this project. The next step is to order the benches and signs. We look to have them in place by the end of June. On each bench and sign there will be a plaque recognizing the donor along with the Rotary Club of So. Burlington. So this summer, take a walk and enjoy the new path additions.

Posted by Lynda Camire on May 05, 2011 The South Burlington Rotary Club has received a District Simplified Grant to help bring fresh water to people in Haiti Our Club received $600 from our Rotary District for the Bio Sand Water Project for Duchity Haiti. Rotarian Donna Thomas visited Haiti in early March and was able to purchase 3 bio sand filters with the funds from our grant and transport them to Duchity Haiti. Our Club’s goal is to provide 3 bio-sand water filters for a new vocational school in Duchity, Haiti. Donna was able to get one filter installed while there. Our club partnered with the Vermont Haiti Project (under the guidance of Jean Despagne Felix and Donna Thomas), and the Duchity Organization for Vocational Education (under the guidance of Jean Despagne Felix). Our Club already has a history with the Vermont Haiti Project. In January 2009 the Club provided $250 for Despagne Felix to attend a water filtration class. In 2009, the Club also donated school supplies to fill backpacks for distribution to needy Haitian school children and in April 2010 our Club used a District Simplified Grant of $1,000 to purchase books for local Haitian merchants for a school that had no books whatsoever.
Posted by John St. Hilaire on Mar 04, 2011 It is time to think GOLF. The Golf Committee is ramping up efforts to contact area organizations to sponsor our 2011 golf tournament. We hope everyone will jump in again to make these contacts to ensure 2011 is another successful year. New to the website is the "Golf Tournament " drop down menu where you can find the tournament poster, sponsorship opportunities, the registration form, and the list of sponsor contacts. We will continue with some old favorites like the silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and Mulligan sales on the day of the tournament. We will run a "free 4-some" raffle this year. Ticket sales be voluntary to keep things light and fun. If you would like tickets to buy or sell, please let me know or pick some up at the check in table at our weekly meetings. The golf committee will provide more information as we get closer to our event.
Posted by Lynda Camire on Mar 21, 2011 On Thursday evening, December 16, 2010, the South Burlington (Vermont) Rotary Club will present Todd Goodwin with its annual Frederick Tuttle Award at the DoubleTree in South Burlington, This annual award is given to a community member who has shown exemplary vocational work in the South Burlington Community. Mr. Goodwin has served the South Burlington Recreation Department since 1980 where he has been Assistant Director since 2003. His work has been recognized far beyond South Burlington’s boundaries including receipt of a Sports Illustrated Community Champion Award in 2005, the Vermont Recreation and Park Association’s President’s Award in 2008, and the Brungardt Outstanding Professional Award in 2008. He is currently Assistant State Chair of the Hershey National Track & Field Program, and President of the Vermont Recreation & Parks Association where he has also served as chair for the Association’s annual conference for the past five years. In 2008, South Burlington Rotary recognized Mr. Goodwin’s service with an Exemplary Employee Award. In nominating Mr. Goodwin for the Tuttle Award, Rotarian Jay Pasackow recalled Mr. Goodwin’s value to the Club in producing its annual “South Burlington’s Got Talent” talent show, “Todd’s work and dedication to this show has truly helped make it into the success that it is. He was always there to make things happen and his personal demeanor with adult performers, young performers and their parents, and the public has been critical to the event’s success. Todd worked diligently behind the scenes; Rotary is very thankful to Todd.” Like Fred Tuttle, Todd Goodwin exemplifies how a person’s day-to-day work, his vocation, can enrich the community.
