| Posted by Michael Kasson | | Posted by Michael Kasson on Aug 04, 2011 At their recent changeover dinner, the White Mountain Rotary Club presented two club members with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship award. Pictured (l-r) are Paul Harris recipient Sue Enman, incoming president Pam Eichler, Paul Harris recipient Jaimie Gagne, and outgoing president Liz Lepera. | | Posted by Pat Lussier Kevin Evans has been the Dartmouth College Forester for the past 18 years. Kevin is in charge of managing 42,000 acres of timberland for the college. In the early 1800's Dartmouth was given 27,000 acres of woodland north of Errol, known as the Second College Grant, by the Governor. In the late 1800's one third of the entire college budget was generated by this land. Management goals for this property include timber management, recreation and education. Today 7000 - 8000 cords of wood per year are harvested from this land. There are 30 acres of field openings and 10 acres per year of shrub land habitat are created. This property has nearly 4500 visitors per year who enjoy cabins, hunting, fishing and mountain biking. There is also monitoring of brook trout, american woodcock and american martens ongoing on the Second College Grant. | | Posted by Pat Lussier Lisa Cordwell, candidate for State Representative visited our meeting to talk about her vision for the North Country. She was profoundly changed by the events of 9/11 and decided to get more involved in the political area. She worked for George Bush's re-election campaign. She is in favor of strong national security, pro life, pro Second Amendment rights, and state's right - 10th Amendment. She is also in favor of stronger immigration laws and does not support babies born to illegal aliens becoming citizens. She would like to make New Hampshire more business friendly and update the local infrastructure. | | Posted by Pat Lussier Every summer several students from Gorham Middle School attend Mindflight, a one week program taught by college professors and assistants at Plymouth State College. This year Matt Saladino brought three of these students, Ava Jackson, Janessa Corrigan, and Taylor Dupont to share their experiences with us. Students attending this program must be recommended by a teacher. This year's programs included Ecology, Astronomy, Arts, and Video Ventures. This year Gorham sent 44 students for this opportunity. Congratulations to Matt and all the students for a job well done! |
