| The Rotary Club of Sun City West (in the Northwest corner ofMaricopa county) is made up of some 64 men and women who honor ‘service aboveself’. We are made up of past Rotarians, new Rotarians, retirees, business andprofessional men and women. There is noprerequisite to membership except to want to make our world and community abetter place than we found it and to have fun doing it. We sponsor local, national and worldhumanitarian projects. If you would like further information please call me:Jim Carney 623-544-3370 . . .
| | At our Club meeting on June 24th, President Jack presented his gravel to Jim Carney, who will preside over Club business for the next Rotary year, beginning July 1st. Jim in turn gave Jack his Past-President’s pin and an inscribed memento for his service in 2010-11.
Earlier in the meeting, President Jack reviewed the accomplishments of the Club during his tenure. Among the achievements noted were: donations through the Endowment Fund of approximately $30,000 to area charitable organizations, addition of seven new members, completion of the Policy Book, and restoration of the Annual Golf Tournament as a major fund raiser. | | Our new President, Jim Carney, and his team have some membership recruitment plans. And it involves all of us putting our shoulder to the wheel. An Ambassador team to quarterback the efforts and follow-up is in place. This includes:
- Each member invite at least two guests throughoutthe year that may be considered for membership.
- Structured follow-up to all guests, including recipients of grants and awards.
- Aggressive identity and invitation to attend as our guest, any previous Rotary members nowmoved to Sun City West or the perimeter of SunCity West.
- Renewed effort to identify and invite professionaland career prospects to attend as our guests.
- Lastly, but not least, aggressively ask our membersto be vigilant to new move-in residents to bethe first to invite them to join the Rotary communityeffort.
Once we have a new member, President Jim has a plan to help them become comfortable with the Rotary spirit and goals. Along with the present mentoring that has worked so well, a special new member welcome table empowered with representative chairs for the Endowment Fund, RI Foundation, and Club activities will interact with the new members. Above all, the goal will be to make our new members feel comfortable and a part of the Club as soon as possible.
| | In 1932 Chicago Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor was approached by creditors, owed more than $400,000 by the Club Aluminum Company, who asked him to take over the failing company. Taylor realized that Club had a good product and needed a way to distinguish itself from it's financially stronger competitors. He decided to capitalize on the "character, dependability, and service mindedness" of the company's employees. He was inspired to write the 24 now-famous words of the Four-Way Test. |
