Rotary Club of Chicago-O'Hare

Thanks to Pat Ranttila who spearheaded our Dictionary Project to deliver the following dictionaries to 3rd graders at Kennedy Elementary (142) and St Maria Goretti Catholic School (25) in Schiller Park, North Elementary (38), Passow Elementary (63) and Pietrini Elementary (40) in Franklin Park. Barb LaSpesa delivered 126 Dictionaries to My Joyful Heart in Mokena, IL for the 3rd graders in their program.

Top 10% Recognition Event

On February 28, 2012 at West Leyden High School in Northlake, Illinois, the Rotary Club of Chicago-O'Hare and the Rotary Club of Chicago -O'Hare Foundation will host the 31st annual Leyden High School top ten percent awards ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The ceremony is the outgrowth of a long term interest initiated by the Franklin Park Rotary Club for providing scholarship assistance to Leyden students. This ceremony is intended to bring public recognition for the academic achievement of the senior students at Leyden High Schools. The students recognized as the top 10% of their class are honored guests at this ceremony and reception. Local businesses, individuals, professionals, and Rotarians throughout the area have contributed funds to sponsor this event and to establish additional Rotary scholarships for Leyden students.

Welcome New Member Pat Ranttila

Pat Ranttila is our newest member of Rotary. Prior to becoming a member, she has donated much of her time helping member Kay Whitlock with Mercy Housing Lakefront, cleaning blankets, and putting together items for their Welcome Baskets. Pat teaches an afternoon after-school program on the west side of Chicago. Pat's husband Jack is a Past President and current secretary of this club.

Welcome Home

The Welcome Basket project was off to a great start due to the huge outpouring of support from airlines and airport related companies. Tenants of the Mercy Housing Lakefront are receiving baskets loaded with toiletries, towels and household supplies. If a tenant has a child, often a stuffed animal is included. The outpouring from the community has been so great that baskets that were originally intended for just the new residents have been given to existing tenants as well. Remaining supplies are being shared with emergency shelters in the area.
