| Posted by David L. Pedersen The Batavia Rotary Club sponsored a program with the BPS Reading Teachers Foundation at the Batavia apartments. Batavia Rotary provided books for 20 families and the Teachers Foundation provided the horsepower. The teachers provided insight on how to engage a reading program at home for their children. Pedersen Holly Alcala - Anderson Animal Shelter Holly Alcala of the Anderson animal shelter told us of the shelter's long (founded in the 1960s) history of service to our "4-legged friends" (cats and dogs). The center's annual budget is $1million, employing 10 full-time and 10 part-time staff, and benefiting from 850 volunteers who collectively offer 20,000 hours of service annually. The center serves the Fox Valley and also portions of Kane, DuPage, and Cook counties. |

LOU AURIEMMA, coach and head of Batavia, Aurora, North Aurora youth football, spoke on the work of their group. They have over 60 players on four teams with a combined record last year of 34-2. Two teams went undefeated and two won their league championship. Their first concern is for physical safety while playing football; the second is to enable any kid who wants to to play football.
