At our meeting last week our club was treated to a
great program about the possibilities of getting a
high-speed rail system built in Illinois. Nicolai
Schousboe and Madeline Grennan provided us
a great deal of data on how the system would work,
where it may be feasible to operate, and the comparative costs to other transportation options.

Dino Robinson was our guest speaker and told us about his passion for uncovering the rich history of African-Americans along Chicago's North Shore and share that with all of us. The passion has led to gathering pictures and memorabilia and finally to the creation of
Storefront Legacy Center.

Our club received notification from District Governor Carlos Frum that we have been award the 2011-2012 Changemaker Award by Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee. We will have the award presented to President Paul Fischl on April 21st at 2:00 PM in conjunction with the 'Innovations Presentations' at our District Conference in the Grand Ballroom of the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, WI. This is a terrific honor for our club as only eight clubs and one Rotaract club in the District have been awarded this honor.

Congratulations to the members of the Rotary Club of Evanston for making a positive and significant change in our community and the world!

Historian and author Leslie Goddard provided an entertaining glimpse at the life of Frances Willard, temperance reformer, educator, and woman’s suffragist during our January 19, 2012 meeting. Dressed in Victorian era clothing, Goddard “became” Willard, offering colorful reminisces of her life in Evanston, where she attended school and lived during her national career.

Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee, a chemical engineer from Vapi, India, currently lives in Evanston part time with his wife Binota Banerjee. In July he joined us for lunch and discussed Rotary programs...and snow.
