Today President Diane produced a surprise program, a Going-Away Party for Dr. Wayne Wilcox. Surprise, that is, to Wayne, but a well-kept secret by the whole club for almost a month. Wayne and his wife DeeDee are going on a mission trip for their church and will be in Guatemala for two years. |

Have no fear, Gustavo Dudamel. The next great conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic is not going to come from the Downey Rotary Club. Sharon Lavrey, Music Director of the Downey Symphony gave us a lesson in the history of conducting, climaxing in a tangle of club members with their own arms and elbows when she attempted to show us how to conduct. |

| Posted by Dan Fox Much like your high school homecoming or maybe a class reunion, Past Presidents Day is one of those rare events in Rotary that allows us to take a look back at and reminisce on the accomplishments of the club and Rotary. Through the quick-witted and should I say it, yes, the “jocular” Past District Governor Doug Baker, Downey Rotary took that trip down memory lane with some 20 Past Presidents and two past District Governors in attendance. But it was not all memories and good times, there was a thread that ran through Doug’s presentation, and it was to honor the club as a whole for their support and the contributions that allowed each past president to accomplish things they never could have on their own. |
| Posted by Dan Fox Rotary is proud of its involvement with youth locally and around the world. The newest avenue of service, New Generations, refers to the youngest generation in the family of Rotary. Many are participants in Rotary’s youth and young adult programs: Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange. Others are serviceminded young people involved in Rotary club and district activities. |
