Aug 16   Rosalva Soto.  Ms. Soto had a major role in the operation of the six weeks summer school program that concluded last week.  The program was held at Helen Keller ES, Lynwood.  At the Lynwood site, the summer school was open to youth 8-13 years old. The formal name of the school program is:  Read Lead Children’s CDF Freedom School.  Other program staff may also participate in the presentation, to include Ms. Cassandra Chase, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Read Lead.  Real Lead is an educational initiative that provides literacy and leadership opportunities for youth and young adults.  It is a project of Community Partners, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit charity.

Aug 23   Victor Ortiz.  Victor has been  president of the Lynwood Rotary Interact Club, as well as advancing to a leadership position within the LA area Rotary District Interact Program.  Victor is well known to all Lynwood Rotary members and is a frequent participant in Lynwood Rotary programs and attends the Rotary meetings on a frequent basis.  Victor spoke briefly to the Club in early June and now returns as the principal speaker, talking about his summer experiences in Mexico and visiting his relatives in Mexico.  Victor will be a senior at Lynwood High School, starting this fall.

Aug 30  Mystery Meeting!  Will we have a meeting or will we be dark this day?  Find out at the Aug 9 meeting!   If we meet, among other things, final coordination efforts for the annual Rotary District Picnic and boat races will be discussed, The annual boat races consist of Rotary youth making their own boats and then racing them in a lake near Redondo Beach.  Of course adult involvement in making the boats (two boats for each Rotary Club) is needed and is part of the fun of this annual event.  If we meet, Rotary Club member Joe Wang can tell us about the different boat designs he has helped create for the boat races for the past several years.

Sep 6   Michael Zeledon , Manager, SCE Credit Union, Lynwood Branch, Plaza Mexico, will make a presentation on how to apply for a business loan.  To be explained is that the application process for a commercial loan requires substantially more documentation than a home loan.  The application process is much more lengthly and detailed and requires an analysis and projection of the planned business operation to be funded by the loan,  For example, Michael will mention the required SWOT analysis:  Strength, Weakness, Opportunity & Threats.  Come find out about this useful background information for any existing business as well as for proposed businesses or proposed business expansions.
