The AV Sunrise Rotary Club presents Community Service Awards to recognize an individual or group that has demonstrated selfless devotion of the betterment of our community. The awardees selected are helping to address critical issues in our communities, they are the every day heroes and successful programs that improve lives, strengthen communities, and impact the well being of local families through service and volunteering. We want to celebrate their hard work, spirit and sustained involvement in our community to help enrich the lives of those that may not otherwise have the opportunity. This month it gives us great pleasure in honoring Julio at Panera Bread in Palmdale for the continuous efforts in putting bread on the table for so many families that may not have a meal if it wasn’t for their generosity. | | Posted by Audrey Miller on Jan 31, 2012 We are very excited to be hosting this year's Auction on April 27, 2012, 6:00 p.m. at Merrill Gardens in Lancaster. We expect many guests to attend the night's event which is designed to reach out to the Antelope Valley and spread the word about what a support Yellen School is the the Antelope Valley. | | Posted by Audrey Miller on Jan 31, 2012 Submitted by Isaias Ocegueda, President QHHS Interact Club. The first semester of Quartz Hill High School Interact has passed at an alarmingly fast rate. It feels like yesterday that I was eagerly scurrying throught the halls trying to submit all the paperwork and files in time to meet the deadlines. And, although it has been tough creating and establishing a firm foundation for our new club, I am surprised to say already because of this club I have met many different people all with different talents and personalities that when palced together and have come together to form the QHHS Interact Club I know and love. This semester we have found two teachers willing to open up their rooms and become our advisors. We have slowly grown from three RYLA attendees to solid bodies of 20 members. We have conducted our first fundraiser at the QHHS car show and designed our t-shirts for the club. | | Posted by Audrey Miller on Jan 31, 2012 New project! Adopted preschool class. | | Posted by Vickie Ryan Through our fundraising event our club ws able to provide holiday meals and gifts to families in our community that needed just a little help. We provided gifts for over 10 children. Each request is reviewed by the Donations Committee, and approved by the Board of Directors. "Thank you so much for all who bought tickets to our event. Your support for our work is invaluable, and we are so grateful for your efforts. Rose a Palmdale Chamber member won the drawing, who's comments were she never wins, and buys tickets just to help. You never know how much a small deed or small gift may just help turn someones life around. We had a member thru their job that got to visit one of the families and was truley excited when she saw the children playing in their yard with toys the AV Sunrise Rotary Club had given them. If you would like to feel that great feeling come that comes from knowing you helped bring joy to a child's life, visit our club any tuesday morning at 7:15 am and see how just your prescence can make a difference in someone's life. | | Posted by Vickie Ryan Everyone gets down on their luck sometimes, but it's very hard when it's Christmas and you have a family. Small children especially don't understand when Santa doesn't pay them a visit. You can now play Santa by providing Christmas to a needy family As Christmas is drawing nearer and nearer, needy families who have not found help with Christmas get more and more desperate and depressed. That's why the nearer it is to Christmas, you will see friends crying for Christmas help for needy families that they know. It is time for our annual "No Event, Event". That's right it no event, no rubber chicken or dried out steak to chew, no new gown to buy, no babysitter to get, and talk about going green no gas to burn driveling to get there. Throw on your comfy house clothes. pick a good movie to watch and relax. You can help a few families by, buying a raffle to our "No Event, Event" for just $2.00 per ticket or three tickets for $5.00, you will help provide a family with a holiday celebration from dinner to gifts and who knows you might just win a portion of the proceeds as we draw one lucky winner on Dec. 13th at our regular Club meeting. No need to be present to win, but we always welcome family, friends and guest to visit us on any Tuesday morning at 7:15 am, at Rancho Village Senior Living. You may send your check to AV Sunrise Rotary Club, PO Box 90386, Palmdale CA 93590. We will gladly send you your receipt and ticket stub, be sure to include your contact information so we can notify you if you win. | | Posted by Audrey Miller on Sep 26, 2011 We are pleased to announce the start up of the Interact Club at Quartz Hill High School. This club began as a result of two students attending RYLA this last year. Lots more will be coming about this club. Watch for updates! The President of the club is Isaias Ocegueda. Other officers will be noted in a future story. Below is the planned events for the Fall Semester: In September, the club was just getting organized and already planned to get involved with the school blood drive and Rebel card fundraiser. In October they plan to use some of the funds raised to order club shirts. In November they are looking to take care of the recycling bins around campus for the school. In December they are planning a Winter Break Party. Congratulations to this new Interact Club!
