India interrupts transmission of polio; will other countries follow?

In early November, 2011, members of the Rotary Club of Ventura and the Ventura Rotaract Club journeyed nearly 3,000 miles from their homes and creature comforts with more than 800 pounds of supplies and gear in tow to remote rural areas of Nicaragua.  This project, headed by the clubs’ respective International Service Chairmen Mario de la Piedra and Greg Abrams, the group of 12 volunteers was a unique opportunity to participate ‘hands-on’ in an overseas service project, particularly for the young Rotaractors, and really demonstrate, “Service Above Self.” The people in that region of Nicaragua, though poor by our standards, were open and welcoming to the Rotaractors and Rotarians and were appreciative of their efforts and interaction.
