MAY PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE 
Greetings, Rotarians-

May is a time of year where we finish up on spring cleaning, and I do a thorough cleaning of my office, which includes a years worth of stashing. A lot of the time as I go through the “stash,” I will find old to do lists, business cards, etc. “Darn, why didn’t I touch bases with this person”, or “why did I stop doing this?” are common thoughts rolling through my head! You see, we all have great motivation and ambition, and then the year, and life in general, take its toll. So what is the answer? FOCUS!! Clean out your desk and renew your efforts. There is still plenty of time!

I am seeing our meeting attendance decline a bit, so I want to challenge all of you on that focus. Do you have goals for the year? Are you on pace to hit any of them? Why or Why not? Is Rotary included in a goal? Pretty easy when you have Rotary 107 as a guide. . .

I have said this many times- it just takes a good group with each member doing a little to accomplish a lot. . . Start with a small goal- find a prospective member to bring to one of our meetings. Find a foursome or a golfer for our golf tournament. Will they really say no??

I am very proud of what we have accomplished so far in a short amount of time. But we still have a ways to go.

Off my soapbox now to trivia- and basketball related. . .why? because I love basketball and I can!!  The first Millard Rotarian to email Leigh with the right answer will win the right be razzed by the audience as you win a Barnes and Noble gift card. . . maybe to buy a book on goal setting. .

Brian Osborne is the Development Director for the Nebraska Children's Home Society. He is married to Diana with whom he has three adult children, two girls and a boy. Brian and Diana are also the proud grandparents of three grandchildren ages 9, 3 and 2. Brian spent 30 years in education starting first as a teacher in 1993 and then as a superintendent in 2008. Brian's hobbies are golf, hiking, watching sports and fishing.

Brian is a previous member of both Western Douglas County Rotary and Council Bluffs Rotary.

The Millard Rotary String Fling in Memory of Sandy Brophy is planned for May 18, 2012 at Tregaron Golf Course located at 13909 Glengarry Circle in Bellevue, NE 68123. All pin prizes, hole sponsorships and golf fees will benefit the Millard Schools and Community.

1. Personal:  Born& raised in Omaha, Nebraska, grew up in the Cathedral neighborhood, attended St. Cecilia’s/Cathedral. Graduated from Omaha Central High School (Go Eagles!), Creighton University (Go Jays!) with business degree in accounting, and University of Nebraska Omaha (Go Mavs!, I’ll have to work on that one)with an MBA.

Married to Ann Addison-Wageman my high school sweetheart for 23 years, we don’t have children but we have 3 dogs (Emma, Chance, & Junior) and a cat (Max) that we consider ‘family’.  Ann’s an attorney, her office is in Olde Town Bellevue. No grandchildren that I’m claiming (just kidding Ann J).  Special thanks to Mom (Esther) & Dad (Frank) (wouldn’t be here without them) and my 4 brothers (Jerry, Pat, Roger, & Brian/2 sisters (Julia & Diane).

2. Professional:  I’m the CFO for The Schemmer Associates, an architecture, engineering, and planning firm http://www.schemmer.com/ I’ve been with Schemmer for 7 years.    I spent 5 years working as the controller for Biocor/Pfizer and 12 years in multiple financial roles with ConAgra where I began my career.

3. Hobbies:  Cycling, hiking, landscaping/gardening.  The landscaping/gardening has suffered the past 7 years since I was infected with the ‘cycling’ bug.  Most Wednesday evenings and weekends you’ll find me riding my bike with friends enjoying the best of Nebraska’s outdoor colors. 

 4. History with Rotary:  I joined Rotary in 2006, introduced to Millard Rotary by fellow cyclists.  I enjoy participating in a number of the club’s events, I’ve served as club secretary, board member, and now president-elect for 2012-2013.

5. What holds your own "net" together?  Family, friends, good food, and a day on my bike.

6. What's one piece of advice you have for a younger person in today's professional world?  Find an area of exercise that you enjoy and develop a passion for it, you’ll enjoy the health benefits and form new friends along the way.

Debbie Brophy Andrews - I have been a member of Millard Rotary since June of 1999. I served as club secretary in 2001-2002 under Kathie Sparks and was Club President in 2002-2003. My husband Jim and father Sanford Brophy were both past Presidents of Millard Rotary. I have served on the Golf Committee since 2000. I started working for Election Systems & Software as the Shared Services Coordinator in January of 2012. I thoroughly enjoy my position with this company. My husband Jim is a Regional Installation Manager for JCPenney's and has been with them since June of 07. I was born and raised in Omaha. I am a product of the Westside School District and graduated once upon a time from Kansas University. Jim and I will celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary in November of this year.

Our daughter Sara is a product of the Millard School system and is currently a Para at Beadle Middle School. She and her husband Jack O'Connell live in Elkhorn and are the proud parents of our first granddaughter, Layla Eve O'Connell born September 8, 2011. She has changed our lives and we are loving every minute of it.

n  Spotlight Net: on three Rotarians' vocations per monthly newsletter.
