| May 14, 2012 | | May 18, 2012 UA Freshman Matthew Klass, gave a presentationto SaddleBrooke Rotary regarding his experience as a Rotary exchange student inItaly in 2011.Matthew’s relationship with Rotary started whenhe was a freshman at Ironwood Ridge High School. He decided then to get involved with Rotary and attended aRYLA seminar where he learned about Rotary’s exchange program. He completed his application and wasselected to participate. In orderto do so Matthew completed all his high school requirements before leaving forItaly during the summer before his senior year abroad. Matthew did not speak Italian but he immersedhimself in the language and quickly became fluent. He realized he has a knack for languages and is majoring inItalian and French at the U of A. He also is pursuing an interest in physiology as he hopes to helpdisabled children. He achieved a4.0 GPA at the UA for his freshman year. Matthew has clearly benefited from hisexperience in Rotary, which has helped him to excel academically, and alsohelped him to make important contacts which will help him in his career andlife. In recognition of his achievements, SaddleBrookeRotary presented Matt with a $1000 scholarship to help him with his UAexpenses. | | May 22, 2012 On Fridday night I attended the Caanyon del Oro Class of 2012 Honors Assembly where I presented her $2000 scholarship. I had stood on a simiilar stage 60 years ago when I graduated from high school. A much smaller stage and smaller number of graduates. It brought back some fond memories of a wondrful life I have had since getting out of high school. Selina was and honors graduate and member of and an officer of the National Honors Society. She alsos recieved The Award of Excellence in both Math and Science. She is a really outstanding student and I am sure that she will continue to be an outstanding student at Rice University. |
