Rotary Ski Fellowship:  All members and friends of the club are invited to join the Colorado Springs Rotary Ski Fellowship group.  The new ski/ride season is just about upon us.  Copper Mountain will open on Friday, October 31.  As in previous years we plan to ski on Wednesdays at Copper Mountain.  If there is sufficient interest, we may go to other areas.  Conditions permitting our first trip to the mountain will be on Wednesday, December 3.  The Wednesdays we plan to ski are Dec 3, 10, 17; Jan 7, 14, 21, 28; Feb 4, 11, 18, 25; Mar 4, 11, 18, 25; and Apr 1, 8.  I expect Copper Mountain will close either on Sunday, April 12 or April 19, 2015, if the snow is very good.  We will carpool up to the mountain leaving at 6:30 am and returning to Colorado Springs around 5:00 pm.
If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the fellowship or receiving our emails, please send their email address to Matt Otten, mr.otten@gmail.com, or call 719.502.5301.

We have 2 opportunities for you to help!  The Dental Day program is a project where children in grades 2-5 get screened for dental concerns.

This Friday, October, 17, we will be assembling dental kits to be used at Dental Day.  The children at Queen Palmer Elementary school will receive a dental kit (tooth brush, tooth paste, and mirror) to encourage them to brush regularly.  We will begin assembly around 11:00am.  We will be assembling the kits in the registration area outside the dining room - come join us at the assembly line!

On October 24, from 9a-10:30a the Rotary Making a Difference committee will be at Queen Palmer Elementary School.

We would love to have you join us at either or both of these activities!  Your participation matters!

If you have any questions, or would like to join us at Queen Palmer, please contact Carol Bach or Marlene Rothzeid

Reading Volunteers Needed:  Your Rotary Club needs volunteers to help 3rd graders at Taylor Elementary School improve their reading skills.  Volunteers will assist students one day each school week from October through May.  The preferred reading hour is 1:00 to 2:00pm. Volunteers may schedule their hour any day Monday to Thursday at their convenience.  Taylor Elementary School is located at 900 East Buena Ventura St, Colorado Springs.  This is just south west of Patty Jewett golf course.

Our Club has provided volunteers for reading programs for over 10 years.  Please add your name to the long list of club members that have participated in this important literacy program.  To volunteer or receive additional information, contact Matt Otten, mr.otten@gmail.com, 719.502.5301.

We have a terrific opportunity to support the Rotary Foundation through added giving and recognize new Paul Harris Fellows.  We are providing an incentive for you to add to your giving now.  If you are nearing the level of $1,000 for a first Paul Harris Fellow recognition, you can give now and we will match your gift with recognition points at a ratio of 2:1.  For every dollar you give we will add $2 in recognition points to your gift.  This has been approved by the board and the individuals involved.

If you have received a first Paul Harris Fellowship and are working towards the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th level (etc.) we will add recognition points at the ratio of 1:1.  For every dollar you give we will add a dollar’s worth of points to get you closer to your goal.

Please consider giving to the Rotary Foundation today and being able to award a Paul Harris Fellowship to yourself or someone else this year!  Please talk to or call Warren Hill to find out more.  He can answer questions on where you are now in total giving and what this offer can do for you.  What a great way to honor someone for “Service Above Self”.
