The Rotary Club of West Hartford is hosting a luncheon for the semi-annual 6th grade writing project at Saint Joseph College in McGovern Hall on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 12:15 p.m.. The theme this year is reach within to embrace humanity: the 2011-2012 theme for Rotary International. The three West Hartford middle schools will be participating. It is the Rotary Club's goal to enhance the writing and critical thinking of the students. Twenty-seven sixth graders will attend the lunch and one person from each team has been selected by their teachers to be a reader of their 500/600 word persuasive essay. | | Posted by Dana Gordon
Calling all Jazz affecionados and music lovers to join the West Hartford Rotary Club for our Annual Jazz Brunch on Sunday, April 1, 2012 from noon to 4:00 PM. It will be held at The Hartford Club, 46 Prospect Street, Hartford, Connecticut. The world renowned featured artists performing will be Delfeayo Marsalis Quintet. A gourmet brunch with a New Orleans cajun theme will be prepared by Chef Chris Kube. Tickets are $75 which include brunch entertainment and parking. A cash bar is available.  On Tuesday evening February 7, 2012 over 70 Rotarians, spouses and special guests helped the West Hartford Rotary celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the club. President Elizabeth Horyn welcomed everyone and introduced our distinguished guests, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, West Hartford Mayor Scott Slifka,West Hartford Town Manager Ron Van Winkle, Rotary District Governor Sue Klock, Rotary District Governor elect Eileen Rau and Assistant District Governor Sue Chatfield. Kelly Kennedy gave a moving invocation and Bob Keily led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. All of the above dignataries gave speeches acknowledging the great things that Rotary and the West Hartford Rotary do for the community. Eileen Rau gave a history of the West Hartford Rotary Club focusing on the last 10 years. Governor Dannel Malloy was gracious enough to stop in and offer his congratulations. Ed Cape then led a group toast celebrating our anniversary. This was a fantastic event and everyone who attended had a great time.

Please join us for The Vines of March Annual Wine Tasting and Auction on March 17, 2012 at The Mandell JCC from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. We have 13 wine vendors, 2 tequila vendors, 2 beer vendors and 1 martini vendor to sample. Food will be provided by the following West Hartford local restaurants: Angelo's, The Black Bamboo, Treva, Ginza, Harry's Bishops Corner, A Little Something Bakery, The Crown Market, Yosi Kosher Catering and The Beachland Tavern. Tickets are $50 for an individual ticket or $45 for 2 or more tickets. Tickets may be purchased at Sedgwick Cleaners, 17 Sedgwick Road or by contacting Kyle Egress at 860-313-7144.
