Executive Director, Stable Spirit Katie Durio has spent a lifetime helping children and teens, largely through her social work vocation. She is a licensed Master Social Worker with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Lamar University and a Masters in Criminology and Corrections from Sam Houston State University. She spent 29 years working for the Jefferson County Juvenile Probation department.
Retiring opened another closely related avenue of work. Katie earned certification called Equine Specialist as a result of completing training by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). In 2006, she opened Stable Spirit as a non-profit organization devoted to using horses to improve behavior, mental health and physical health of clients with various disabilities and challenges. She will share more about her work and the impact she continues to have on those going through a difficult time by using horses. Katie will be introduced by Chad Blanchard. | | Posted by Jr. Broussard on May 15, 2012 | | Posted by Becky L. Mason on Apr 23, 2012
As a parent, do you search for activities and projects that will broaden your children’s horizons, expand their understanding of the world, and create life-long friendships?
If you answered yes, consider participating in the Rotary Youth Exchange program. In this program, an international exchange student lives with a host family for three to four months, then moves to another home. With this arrangement, the student experiences three different environments and learns more about American life. It’s also easier for a busy family to host if it’s just for a few months.
Our club has committed to sponsoring a German high school girl beginning in August and lasting through the end of the school year. Our club sponsors the student, but host families do not need to be Rotarians.
Experienced host families agree that the relationships you form truly last a lifetime and can include opportunities to visit “family” on the other side of the globe years later.

She is enrolled in the College of Business, as a candidate for a Master's degree in International Marketing. She will share her stories about Rotary Ambassadorial duties upon her return to the states but meanwhile Rebekah invites Rotarians to follow her experiences through her blog at: http://rebekahmaxwell.blogspot.com/.
| | Posted by Jr. Mason on Mar 07, 2012 Members of the Rotary Club of Beaumont were in every first grade classroom throughout the city, sharing a special event with each student. Rotarians of the Beaumont club purchase and distribute a personalized book to each child, taking time to read and share the excitement of the story with them. Smiles and gasps of excitement were abundant as children saw their own name in print in the pages of the storybook. Promoting literacy is a goal of Rotary International and a favorite project of the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Thank you to Channel 6 KFDM for the news coverage and providing a copy of the video. | | Posted by Becky L. Mason on Mar 19, 2012 An astronaut...a noted historian...jugglers! What?!? An astronaut, the official White House historian, a glimpse into life with the circus (complete with jugglers and an elephant): these are all ideas flowing from the Centennial Program Committee kickoff meeting. What contacts do you have that could help us draw some interesting, noteworthy, and/or entertaining speakers to celebrate our club’s one-hundredth year? | | Posted by Jacque Chapman on Feb 28, 2012 |
THE WHEELS HAVE BEEN SET INTO MOTION! WE ARE MARKING THE CENTENNIAL OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF BEAUMONT
We are moving into the next century of the projects and programs of the Rotary Club of Beaumont, and as we move forward, we feel the tug to look back and celebrate the successes of the first one hundred years and the Rotarians who where a part of those achievements. Don't just come along for the ride: get into the action with us!
Beginning with an initial brainstorming dinner of past presidents, the gears were greased and the planning process got cranked up. The speed is picking up as we rapidly approach the 2012-2013 Centennial year. Don't miss out: check back here regularly for updates on plans and projects.
Come on, the Rotary wheel is turning and we are headed to a grand celebration of the past century and it will be full speed ahead into the next 100 years!
