People do not decide one day to behave unethically. Misconduct often begins with an organization’s cultural undertones that allow shortcuts and smaller offenses that, when ignored, metastasize into a larger pattern of misconduct. This presentation will focus on how proper selection of employees and initial training, daily supervision, and mission clarity can be integrated to create an agency that is built using good character as its cornerstone.

Our weekly meeting was called to order by President John Guthmann at the DoubleTree Hotel downtown Saint Paul.  David Laird led members in singing America the Beautiful.  Compliments to all for the acapella performance.  Bob Cardinal delivered the invocation.  Roger Nielsen welcomed and introduced visiting Rotarians and guests.

Do a Make-Up at the Club’s satellite session on Thursday morning. Go to Scouting Headquarters — where the parking is convenient (and free) — at Marshall and Western. You’ll be called to order promptly at 7:30 AM and conclude by 8:15 AM—that’s a promise! Attending the breakfast alternative offers flexibility while keeping you connected with the downtown gathering. At each Thursday morning meeting, you’ll hear a Club member personally describe his or vocation.

A member of The Rotary Club of Rochester since 1998, District Governor Karel Weigel served as Treasurer in 2006-2007 and as President in 2010-2011.  District activities include service on the District Governor Nominating Committee and on-site coordinator for North Central Presidents-Elect Training Seminar (NC PETS).  Rotary is a special part of Karel’s life and she is proud to represent Rotary in our communities and in our world.  Service Above Self may be a short motto, but it speaks volumes in humanitarian impact.

St. Paul Rotary with support from AAA is re-publishing the St. Paul Walking Tour Guide.  St. Paul Rotary created the guide in 2008 and it was so popular that it needs a second publication.   The guide is available at several locations in downtown St. Paul.

In 1974 the Rotary Club of Saint Paul and the Rotary Club of Nagasaki joined in a sister club relationship.  In 1981 Saint Paul Rotary presented the Rotary Club of Nagasaki a totem pole to commemorate the relationship between the two clubs.  It was prominently displayed in their city’s Peace Park but after many years it deteriorated.
