One of the biggest challenges facing science and technology companies here in Minnesota is access to highly skilled talent. Local companies in these fields often report that they have a hard time identifying candidates with the right mix of skills to fill open positions.  Hear from MHTA President & CEO Margaret Anderson Kelliher about what MHTA and its partners are doing to help bridge this STEM skills gap.

Judge John Guthmann gaveled the gathering to order at 12:17 sharp, despite the distractions of two dozen adults in costume at the head table and long lines of Rotarians still at the buffet.

In 1885, a New York reporter wrote that Saint Paul was, "another Siberia, unfit for human habitation" in winter.  Offended by this attack on their city, the Saint Paul Chamber of Commerce decided to prove not only that Saint Paul was habitable but that its citizens were very much alive during winter, their most dominant season.  Thus was born the Saint Paul Winter Carnival.

One hundred fifty years ago our state offered the first volunteers to defend the union.  Every Minnesota soldier passed through historic Fort Snelling, reactivated after it had been sold to a developer.  The venerable Fort eventually expanded to include several large Indian camps, massive stock yards, huge warehouses, and secure barracks for draftees before reverting to a supply depot in 1865.

As part of St Paul Rotary’s Centennial Celebration, our Club entered into a five-year partnership with Feed My Starving Children to both involve Club members in a meaningful service project and to help increase FMSC’s ability to feed starving people around the world.

Do a Make-Up at the Club’s satellite session on Thursday morning. Go to Scouting Headquarters — where the parking is convenient (and free) — at Marshall and Western. You’ll be called to order promptly at 7:30 AM and conclude by 8:15 AM—that’s a promise! Attending the breakfast alternative offers flexibility while keeping you connected with the downtown gathering. At each Thursday morning meeting, you’ll hear a Club member personally describe his or vocation.

It is estimated that 90% of people in Lesotho that need glasses cannot afford them.  Working with the Spectacle Shoppes in the Twin Cities area, we'll be collecting used eyeglasses for shipment to the Rotary Club of Maseru, Lesotho. Maseru is on the border of South Africa.

St. Paul Rotary with support from AAA is re-publishing the St. Paul Walking Tour Guide.  St. Paul Rotary created the guide in 2008 and it was so popular that it needs a second publication.   The guide is available at several locations in downtown St. Paul.

In recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Saint Paul in 2010 an endowment fund was created to finance the Second Century Scholarship Fund well into the future.  Each year one student will receive a $5,000 scholarship that can be renewed three times for a total award of $20,000.
