The Federal Reserve Bank is a uniquely American institution. Relative to its counterparts around the world, the U.S. central bank is highly decentralized. The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis is one of 12 regional Reserve Banks that, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the Federal Reserve System.

Narayana Kocherlakota took office as president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis on Oct. 8, 2009. In that capacity, Kocherlakota serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, the policymaking arm of the Federal Reserve System. In addition to his responsibilities as a monetary policymaker, Kocherlakota oversees all operations of the bank, including supervision and regulation, and payments services. At our November 18 meeting President Kocherlakota will describe the objectives of monetary policy. In particular, he will discuss how the Federal Reserve can do a better job communicating about those objectives, and how clearer communication can lead to better outcomes.

Do a Make-Up at the Club’s satellite session on Thursday morning. Go to Scouting Headquarters — where the parking is convenient (and free) — at Marshall and Western. You’ll be called to order promptly at 7:30 AM and conclude by 8:15 AM—that’s a promise! Attending the breakfast alternative offers flexibility while keeping you connected with the downtown gathering. At each Thursday morning meeting, you’ll hear a Club member personally describe his or vocation.
