Grand Opening of The Nest, 2308 Old Airport Road, serving GISD high Schools.

The Rotary Club of Georgetown presented The Georgetown Project with a $35,000 Rotary

Humanitarian Matching Grant, supported by its partner club in Ciudad Victoria, the

capital city of Tamaulipas, Mexico. The funds are to support The Nest, The Georgetown

Project’s newest initiative, an after-school shelter providing supportive services to homeless

teens in 9th - 12th grades attending all three Georgetown ISD high schools. The grant

supports furnishings, computers, supplies and other costs associated with creating this new

and valuable service for youth in our community.

Club President Laura Antoine has approved a committee to coordinate planning for the 50th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Georgetown. Our club was chartered on April 23, 1962, so our celebration will be conducted at the April 20 meeting in 2012. Committee members are Rebecca Burgman, Myra Page, Laura Tilrico, Roland Pena, Billy Ray Stubblefield, and Gene Davenport. Please share celebration ideas with members of this group. Also, please share any historical moments or information with this committee.

Brookwood in Georgetown citizens and lead teacher Connie Preston (back left) accept a $3,800 District Assistance Project grant in 2011 from the Rotary Club. The money was used to buy a production kiln for the group’s pottery enterprise.
