Club 13 Rotarian Bob Motley is the last living umpire of Negro League baseball. He will travel to Washington D.C. in late June to receive the Congressional Gold Medal for his service as one of the first African-Americans to enter the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.  President Barack Obama called Motley earlier this month to congratulate him and invited him to Washington to receive the award. Motley is a founding member of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. 

The Membership Classification and Qualification Committee approved the following application, which will be reviewed at the May 16 Board of Directors meeting. In accordance with Article IV, Section 1 of the Club Bylaws, this applicant will become a member unless a written objection is received in the Rotary office by May 24.

Rotary Club 13 will collaborate with the Independence Rotary Club and Friends United for two service projects in Honduras.  The first is to establish an education resource center in Tela. It will be the seventh such center set up by Friends United in Honduras, and will provide classroom resources for the teachers in the area.  Friends United provided some money to the Rotarians to begin the renovation.  However, several thousand dollars more are needed to finish the project.
