Kathy Garver & Kevin Larger
Featured Speaker: Kathy Garver, Vandalia Food Pantry was introduced by Rotarian Kevin Larger. Kathy gave us a brief history of the pantry and its policies started by the late George Viars. The pantry (supported only with volunteers) operates five days a week, 52 weeks a year and demand continues to increase, now serving about 750 families per year. Due to stocking constraints, a family can receive a food order no more than once in 90 days. Kathy says the pantry is blessed with a wealth of community volunteers, including Rotary's month of October commitment. Kudos to Kathy Garver for donating nearly 30 hours a week to facilitating the pantry's operations.
Change of Meeting Venue: We will meet (regularly scheduled time) at Celebrations Banquet Center II located at 7615 Poe Avenue.
Featured Speaker: Dan Edwards - DJ Edwards Group LLC Topic: Body Language. Program Host: Karen Weatherly
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. Our sponsored Interact Club draws from the Butler High School student body. The "Counselor" is Kelly Mahoney who teaches at the high school. Rotarian Rodney Washburn (Vocational Service Director), provides guidance and support. Interactors develop a network of friendships and learn the importance of Developing leadership skills and personal integrity, Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others, Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work, Advancing international understanding and goodwill.
Message from Kelly...
We recently had our second Interact Club meeting to roll out the new activities! Rotarian Rodney Washburn brought us our shirts and we love them! Many members wore them for the yearbook's Club Photo (see below). Our next round of projects include the following: Food Pantry Volunteering, Historical Society Grounds Maintenance, Crossroads Rehab Center Halloween Activities and Late Night Bingo (hope some Rotarians can join us). Members brought bingo prizes to the meeting and helped wrap them. We continue to help with the V-B High School's new courtyard. Short surveys were again completed and two more members won restaurant gift cards. It was a fun and successful meeting. Big thanks to Rotary!
