Race to the finish, or race to the beginning?

Fellow VanLandingham Rotarian Brian Knapp recently competed in the Boston Marathon and shares a poignant moment at mile 22. In his words...

"During the race I battled dehydration and a heat reaction from the 90 degree temp while nervously carrying a ring 22 miles to Sandra. I wrapped the ring in a plastic bag, put it in my pocket, and kept checking to make sure it was still on me every couple of minutes. I had 22 miles to think of what to say and when I got there all I could do was kiss her! However, I did end up saying that the six months of training that I had put in for preparation for this race was not about the race, but rather about getting to mile 22 to see her and ask her what I was about to ask her. That was when I got down to propose. Following the proposal, I continued running to finish the Boston Marathon in 3hrs 33minutes. Just to give you an idea, last year I had finished the race in 2hrs 45 minutes and was the first finisher from the state of South Carolina."
