Bill Encell introduced Sara Hirz who talked to us about the organization National Write Your Congressman. The risk bag was at $1845 and Penny McWilliams won a free lunch. | | Posted by Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt Last week Roxy Orr introduced us to the Suburban Rotarian of the Year: Katie Henry
Katie was honored for her extraordinary Rotary service since joining the club. She helped conduct the huge garage sale project to raise money for Polio Plus. She has served on various committees and joined the Board of Directors this year. Katie also Chaired the Fundraising Committee this year during which the committee broke the all-time fundraising record. Last but not least, Katie stepped in to host an exchange student from another club this spring during a very difficult situation.
Katie talked to the club about what service means to her and her family as well as her relationship with the exchange student she hosted. Congratulations and thank you Katie for your tremendous service! Thank you to Michael and Katie's family for sharing her with us.

On June 16th, a group of Suburban Rotarians will be taking the GSE team to attend a College World Series game. We want to show them a real Nebraska tailgate party and are looking for a location to have this event where club members can come and attend and meet the team. If you are able to offer a location, please contact Mike Salerno, Howard, or Jennifer. More information to follow. | | Posted by Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt Interact is a Rotary-based service club for high school students. Shenandoah was the first club in District 5650 to sponsor such a club and Suburban Rotary is in line for the next one. New member Karl Schaphorst is heading up this effort and he and Yolanda Hoffman were on-hand for the inauguration of the new club. Please contact Karl or Yolanda if you are interested in helping with this effort.
You can read more about the new club in a local newspaper article by clicking here. | | Posted by Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt Thank you to THE YEARLINGS for the sponsorship of the lunches for our speakers and exchange students during the month of May.
