| 2011-12 President Rick Morrison
May 9, 2012 What a great day for Fourth Creek! It was great to see our Interact Clubs represented this morning. Thanks to their contributions and the generosity of Carolina Farm Credit, we presented $2,800 to SEED Programs Inc. http://www.seedprograms.org/ The money raised will provide vegetable seeds and the training to grow vegetables to feed the hungry in developing countries throughout the world.
Our scholarship committee has made their selections for this year's Laura Laws and John Waggoner Interact Scholarships. We will be presenting those in the coming weeks at the awards assemblies. Thanks to the committee for their diligence.
Together we can work wonders...

Locally, there are Young Life programs at Statesville High School, South Iredell High School, and Statesville Christian School. Shown making the presentation are Chris Bates and Todd Scameheorn of Rotary Fourth Creek to Brad Bucklad, Area Director of Young Life. Collins, formerly a teacher at Statesville High School, is now on the staff of Mitchell Community College. Rotary Fourth Creek has donated in the past two years to the Project. Club members were glad to learn that a third trip is to be taken this summer by both Statesville High and Mitchell students, along with some adults from the community. In the past two years, seventeen boys have had the opportunity to fly on a plane for the first time and travel across the country for an adventure unlike anything in their lives previously. All the funds were raised by donations from various civic clubs, as well as others in the Iredell community. This past year the total cost of each student to participate was $881. The boys and chaperones stay in budget cabins with little but beds and a stove. The students get to experience first hand the ecology, wildlife biology, geology, and botany of the area. They get to see and learn about geysers and hot springs, coyotes, black bears with cubs, trees, birds, and wild flowers, as well as the reintroduction of the gray wolf and bald eagle, the cutthroat trout, and the delicate balance of life in high altitude and lake ecosystems.
