One Diet Does Not Fit All

Speaker - Jennifer Elliott

Jennifer is a dietitian from the south coast of NSW. She recently published a book called "Baby Boomers, Bellies and Blood Sugars: How to lose inches, lower blood sugars and get your energy and life back". Jennifer has been invited to speak at clubs in her area and her favourite topic, "One diet does not fit all", has been well received.

In the talk Jennifer explained the basis of the current belief that low-fat diets are healthy, why this is not true for everyone and the consequences of low-fat eating that we are now seeing. She also explained why some people gain weight around the middle and how those unwanted inches can best be lost.

Her website has more details on Jennifer, her publications and the book for those interested in learning more. The website is: www.babyboomersandbellies.com

President-elect Peter Dalwood recently returned from a trip to India, where he worked with an international team of Rotarians and friends immunising children against polio and helping to build a dam in a rural village.  Follow the link to the team's Facebook page to read their stories and see photos of what they got up to: www.facebook.com/RotaryDreamTeam2012

March is Rotary International's Literacy Month.

During the month we have handed out children's books to new parents at the Waverley Private Hospital.   I found it most rewarding and the comments from the New Mums and Dads were very positive. Some Rotarians and partners also purchased books for their grandchildren.

The Four-Way Test  of the things we say and do

  • Is it the truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
