On October 6, the club will once again hold its annual Leonia Oktoberfest. Proceeds will go to our Weekend Snack Pack Program, which now serves needy children in both Leonia and Edgewater. The Rotary Club of The Palisades was recipient of a $5,000 donation from PNC Bank to help fund the club's "Weekend Snack Pack" program, which benefits children at risk of hunger at the Agnes C. Scott elementary school in Leonia.

On June 16 the club again hosted, for its third time, a Pedals for Progress used bike and sewing machine collection, at the Edgewater Community Center. We collected 49(!) bikes, which included 26 abandoned bikes contributed by River Club Apartments in Edgewater. Click here for the flyer.

On June 14, our club member Rory Sutherland was presented the Paul Harris Fellowship plaque for his work on water projects in the Dominican Republic.

On April 22, our club was honored with the District's 2012 Florie Scialla Community Service Award, for our work in providing weekend meals to schoolchildren. Our Weekend Snack Pack Program was selected over more than 50 other clubs in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties for the honor.

Club member Rory Sutherland traveled to the Dominican Republic, where for nine days he lived in the countryside, working with fellow Rotarians. They installed home water filters in the cholera-stricken area. To see the flyer for the project, click here. To download a donation form, click here.

Our club conducted a Winter Outerwear Drive from January 14 until February 20 to collect warm clothing for needy adults. The clothing was distributed through homeless shelters and other local facilities. Our club decided to host its drive after the holidays, when potential donors might be replacing old outerwear with new ones from the holidays. Collection boxes were set up at the Edgewater Community Center, the Leonia Public Library, and the Palisades Park Public Library.

On January 6, our Club started distributing snack packs, in collaboration with the Englewood Center for Food Action. We are providing weekend food to the children that get free or reduced lunch at Anna C. Scott Elementary School. Our goal is to make sure the students have nutritional food seven days a week. Due to generous donations from PNC Bank and the Leonia Community Chest, our club member organizer, Pete Shanno, forecasts that we will be able to distribute weekend snack packs every Friday until the end of the school year.

On November 21, the PNC Bank gave our club's weekend snack program a huge boost, with a $4,462.50 donation to benefit Leonia schoolchildren at risk of hunger.

Our club will host a wine and cheese fundraiser in Edgewater, Thursday, November 3, 2011, from 7:30 - 9:30 pm, at the Crab House Restaurant. The proceeds will support the Center for Food Action and other club community service projects, and will provide a donation toward the purchase of a Paul D. Ortlip painting as a gift for Edgewater’s new Borough Hall. The event will be in the New York Skyline View Room, on the second floor, at 541 River Road, Edgewater, NJ. Tickets are $35.
