The Chambersburg Area Senior High School Interact Club will celebrate its Rotary International charter on May 24th, during the annual Chambersburg Rotary Awards Dinner at the Orchards Restaurant. The Chambersburg Rotary Club initially sponsored the new youth service club last fall at the high school. It was formally organized in December of 2011, with 17 students.
First club President, Cooper McGarvey, will speak about their first service project, “Read Across America”, when members read to all classes at Buchanan Elementary School. Club Advisors, Unique Patterson and Steve McNew will introduce the newly elected officers.
The Interact Club is a non-denominational organization for students dedicated to local and International service. Interact is sponsored by local Rotary Clubs that provide guidance and support. It is open to all students from14 to 18 years of age. There are currently over 250,000 Interact members in over 11,000 clubs worldwide.
Rotary is the world’s oldest and largest non-denominational service organization with 1.2 million members in 32,000 clubs worldwide. Their motto is “Service Above Self”, and Rotarians participate in community service and international projects. Other youth sponsored projects include, Rotary Youth Exchange, College Scholarships, and Youth Leadership Conferences.
